Hard pours a two-finger frothy tan head (some orange hint to it) over a clouded brown liquid (with some copper sheen). Smells leather, sherry, dark caramel, toffee, figs, and bourbon, raw oak, pineappley-alcohol. Dry malt extract and mild vanilla, green raisin, and oranges. Pretty complex and balanced.

Tastes yummy. Wet on the draw with malty caramel, lotsa dark fruit (fig, tamarind, molasses), some bourbon, and well-balanced drying rough wood. Pineapple, clean alcohol sting, leather (slightly tannic drying), sweet tart. This beer is wet to start, but quickly dries to a comfortable amount. In the dry, the flavors during the sweet are able to persist and add complexity to the slightly-astringent dry rough wood edge. The bourbon is present, but neither dominant nor submissive. There is some cardboard oxidation going on, but blends into and is mostly masked by the barrel. Some sherry/soured-caramel oxidation from oxidation is present near the finish and adds a light bright counterpoint to some the dark fruits and barrel. Without them, I think the beer would come across as too 'brooding'. This is the best beer I've had in a long time. Really a fine treat and worth making a point to track down if you are in the Denver area. I know I will trying to get more - and seeking out a beer isn't something I've done in a long time. Perhaps not as well put together as Bligh's (from Drydock), but still a great beer. Md thick in the mouth and modest carbonation.
