Poured out with a decent head and some good lacing. Deep gold color to the beer with a light smell of hops and grains. Very mild flavor with a hint of flowery/hop taste. Very light and easy drinking beer, especially for warmer months. I liked it on tap...brought some home in a growler. A very light and balanced lager.

Light German style lager. 16 IBU.

Nice clear gold color with decent lacing in the glass. Dominant flavor is fruity and hoppy but in a subtle way. Very light bodied. Nice nose of flowery hops. Long aftertaste of grain and slight bitterness. Has that "perfumey" flavor, but again quite subtle.

Pleasant, quite innocuous, but a step up from the usual American style brewpub lagers. The lightest beer in the range, available year round.

Helles is one of those styles that is near and dear to my heart. I think it’ll forever remind me of sitting under a chestnut tree in a Bavarian biergarten or downing a liter at the Hof.
That said, when someone doesn’t do a good job with one, or falsely calls an American pale lager or hoppy pilsner a helles, I’ll definitely notice.
Luckily this one is one of the better US examples I’ve had lately, and I’d even say that it’s gotten better since its debut.
Arrives a honey golden color. Not too dark or light…pretty much right in the middle of the different versions I’ve had. Head is served at a typical ¼” like most beers are, but does a good job of lacing. I get the feeling that if they served it in a 1L mass, it would probably look just like one from Spaten or H-P.
The nose is par for the course. Sweet pale malts, noble hops (probably hallertauer), and a little bit of lager yeast. As you work your way in, some quick whiffs of sulfur pop up here and there. While it’s not exactly desirable, it’s honestly pretty normal for the helles beers I’ve had in Munich, too. I’d assume it’s just that standard byproduct of the lager yeast and maybe not lagering long enough? Flawed yes, but flawed like mom’s meatloaf.
The flavor is spot on as well, and pretty much mirrors the nose. Sweet up front, and a gentle floral bitterness on the back end.
One of those styles I can drink pretty much all the time, and one of the very, very few US attempts that really does remind me of Munich.
This is my go-to starter at the CK and I don’t see that changing. It isn’t perfect or anything, but it’s flawed in the right ways that make it feel more authentic.
My first experience with this beer over the summer wasn’t quite as positive (but still good), so they’re clearly making strides with it, too.

pours a lovely radiant yellow color with lots of bubbles rising to the top of a traditional pilsner glass forming a nice smooth looking bone white head. smells like german pale and crystal malts and some bittering hops to crisp it up. flavor is very well balanced and surprisingly hoppy for the style, a clever americanization of a helles. plenty of fresh cut hay and peppery yeast notes as well. feel is superb here, refreshingly carbonated with a light body. not too light, some oomph there, but still highly sessionable. a very good lighter craft beer that in my mind stands apart from a lot of the lighter offerings at local breweries. i appreciate this one for what it is.

A: Pours a pale gold, almost straw-colored. This is the last glass out of the growler and has a cloudiness to it. Bright white head dissipates with some mild lacing.

S: Smell of wheat with a lovely floral scent accompanying. Mild bitterness in the background provides a multifaceted and very pleasant smell. I love it!

T: Surprisingly flavorful in the initial taste. Some grains and hops come in, but don't overwhelm. Not as much on the swallow, though. Some mild bitterness and malt. Give it a little time and the flavors emerge, making it a crisp, good drink for a summer's day.

M: Light and crisp as one might expect from a German-style lager, though it is a little heavier than one might expect from the style. Good more a couple, though.

I'm not a lagers first kind of guy, but this one is well done and very solid. Copper Kettle's samplers were some of the better beers I've had and this one belongs quite well in that group.
