Angel in the Fields is a Samuel Smith brewery-owned pub, located in Marylebone, London. Set at the southern end of Marylebone High Street where George Street intersects, it attracts a varied mix of clientele ranging from the local after-workers to the random tourists finding their way through the high-end shops in Marylebone Village.

At first sight, its subtle facade is adorned with a compliment of (what I imagine are) original stained-glass windows that encase the corner establishment. Old world charm that is hampered only by the inability to see in (or out) from the sidewalk! Four standard wooden pub tables are located just outside the entrance for smokers and sun-seekers. Once inside, one can either enter the ground floor main bar, or traverse upstairs to the comfortable lounge. Ground floor, a short bar is located on the left with about a half-dozen bar stools in flank. A series of about another half-dozen 4-6 topper tables surround the dark wood-paneled establishment with a working fireplace and dart corner to round it out. Upstairs in the lounge, the room is set in a more cozy traditional dining room configuration. Food is available - standard pub fare.

Back to the bar: There seem to be an average of six to eight beers (and cider) on tap at any given time. All are proprietary Samuel Smith brews: Pure Brewed Lager, Taddy Lager, Alpine Lager, Old Brewery Pale Ale, Imperial Stout, Organic Cider. A full compliment of liquors and wine are also available.

This place is simple, but possesses a lot of old-world British charm. One can see instantly that this pub is likely representative of turn-of-the-century English pub atmosphere. And since I see a brewery truck delivering tuns on a fairly regular early morning basis, freshness of the beer goes without saying. Furthermore, since Angel in the Fields is company owned, its cheaper than its neighboring free-houses.. an additional bonus!
