Reviewed on 31/12/12 - from notes.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2012, so it's a little out of date. Purchased from the York Wine & Beer shop ages ago. The label states that it is brewed in Bavaria using an 8-week brewing process, and that it is unfiltered. There is also a Puma logo on the neck. I love the octopus arms on the front label.

Poured into a straight pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy golden-amber hue with good carbonation. Yields a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. Aroma of light malt with hints of mild husky grain, faint earthy yeast and a whiff of alcohol/industrial solvent in the background.

Tastes of mild grainy malt with a harsh, solventy character. Notes of hot, spicy solvent/alcohol accompanied by faint grain, earthy yeast and acrid stewed leaves. A subtle, dry bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and spicy, with good carbonation and decent body for the style. There is an oily alcoholic quality on the palate. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of harsh stewed leaves, solvent and faint grain.

Not a very nice lager - the solvent/alcohol notes come on strong and ruin the flavour. The aroma and mouthfeel are better but still pretty weak. It could be that age has done this no favours, but I can't imagine it was that great to begin with. All hot booze/solvent and no aroma hops or balance. I believe it was a one-off, but at any rate not recommended.
