I had this beer at the Claim Jumper restaurant in Arcadia, CA. It was served by the waitress in a standard pint glass. The beer came with no head on it, just a lacy swirl in the middle of the glass. I have a feeling that the bartender poured off all the head. What a shame... The color was a deep red to brown. The aroma was mostly of malt with a hint of alcohol sweetness. The taste was a bit unbalanced though. Alcohol dominates the front of the beer with a light hoppiness. The rest of the flavor is covered by a roasty maltiness. It has some sourness of a brown ale but only for a moment. This is not the greatest beer ever, but it is certainly not bad for a contract brewed house beer. Also, I was impressed with the large selection of bottled beers at Claim Jumper.

If you are looking for a FLAVORFUL beer, look no further. Some beers are a snooze. This beer wakes up every tastebud you have. The appearance is a lovely red, with a little foam and lacing (want more? add detergent). The aroma is much more mild than the flavor. It caresses the tongue, then announces its presence in no uncertain terms. Complex, but unified: this is a micro-beer to be reckoned with. You have your serious hops, and your serious malt. What more could a beer drinker ask? A pitcher? Go for it!

On-tap at the Claim Jumper in Fountain Valley, CA,

A: Pours a bright red, with a small head out of the tap, but leaves a nice swirl of lacing.

S: Smell is slightly sweet malt, with a hint of what smelled like strawberry.

T: A pretty good taste is hidden within this red ale. Sweeter than most, but has a tasty malt profile, with a hint of caramel.

M: Smooth and medium-bodied, easy to drink, could have had a few more pints of this stuff.

D: A good beer to have with a big Claim Jumper dinner, good to wash down dinner with an easy drinkability, I'll have this one again the next time I am at Claim Jumper, as their tap and bottle list wasn't that great.
