I grew up in Burlingame and ever since I've turned 21, I sadly notice the lack of quality beer establishments whenever I'm in town. We have Steelhead and that's about it...
Well, now we have a BevMo. Huzzah.
Walked in here when I was back up in the Bay Area for Christmas time. The place was absolutely spotless, not an ounce of dust or dirt in the place, but that's probably because it hadn't been open long.
The middle of the store is pretty much open as a walk way with a few display stacks full of your impulse items. However, they also had the tasting area right in the center of the store and in said walkway. I'm guessing this is good for attracting people to join the tastings, but sort of annoying and I'm sure it makes for slightly cramped tasting experiences.
The beer is all in the back end of the store, much of which is out on shelves with a handful of cooler doors full of beers. The standards are all there, of course, with a few more specialized breweries from the Bay Area.
I don't think anyone spoke to me while I was there, but at a store like BevMo, I really prefer that. Prices were the same as at every BevMo.
Sort of funny that a big chain like BevMo has opened on The Ave., but I guess that's the way things are going in Burlingame these days.

How can a beer store in California (especially SF Bay Area) have any credibility if they don't have any beers from Russian River? I wonder if that has to do with the distributor. Bevmo is just like any other department store, except they sale beer and spirits. I'd much rather have a Bevmo down the street in this area than not, but I always feel like they're not quite dedicated to providing much of a changing variety of beers. Whole Foods does a much better job of this. Also, coolers are mostly packed with sh*tty beer from the "big 3".
The beerware sold here is all very generic: pint glasses, big glass mold steins, weizen glasses.
