As a witbier, this one plays the part well; its color is a clouded light yellow, like white gold but a shade darker and still quite pale. The white head, while very foamy, is quite substantial, resting at over one finger tall for some time, and at least one finger for most of the session. Lacing is left in firm, thick rings and webby patching.

The nose has a fruity note and green apple skin, but mostly herb. Herb is very strong, a very particular note almost like basil, and some grass and lime finish out an aroma that's both unusual and intriguing, and one some would find strange.
With the herb, the fruits come out in the flavor, particularly something tropical, while the lime peel adds obvious zest and tartness. Combined with the light body, it is very juicy and refreshing.
Speaking of, it's got the right heft for a wit, light in body with with depth. Crispness goes all the way and remains alongside a firm creaminess.

Another craft beer week try. Color of this beer is light amber to yellow. Cloudy is look with small head.
Odor is tropical and sweet. You can smell the passion fruit as well as a hint of wheat.
Taste is pretty tart and fruity. Passion fruit is strong and there is some lime as well. The wheatness also there, but it is under the fruity.
Mouth feel is light and carbonated.
Overall a decent fruity beer. Lots of tartness that is a bit much for me.

Pint arrives a light pastel canary yellow with a soft skim of white foam, a little arc of spindly lacing on the opposite side of the glass.

Aroma is light and fresh, seemingly lemony at first, later becoming pungent with tropical passionfruit as it warms and is swirled around a bit. Light wheaty notes in the background, with subtle spice notes of earthy coriander.

Flavors of citrus, champagne, white grapes, it has mimosa-like qualities, though not sweet. Lightly tart, and it seems to fit the natural fruity profile well. Spices seem pretty subdued in the taste. Medium to light bodied, the lighter carbonation lends a soft feel. Pleasant and quenching, mellow overall, ideal for a summer session.

Served in a 5 Rabbit pint glass at Fountainhead 6/30/11. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!

A: Served hazy pale gold with a healthy amount of carbonation. There was about 1 1/2 fingers of bright white foam on top that left a little bit of lace behind.

S: Weird aroma! The first few whiffs reminded us of our baby sons' stinky feet after he's been wearing socks all day. Funky, lemony, and cheesy. Pretty gross at first. Then a funny thing happened. It warmed up and the smell changed. It began to take on notes of fleshy tropical fruit, pineappe, grapefruit, toasted wheat, and spices.

T: Same as above but the skanky passion fruit of the smell just wasn't as apparent in the taste. Actually, this was very pleasant and pretty well multi layered. Healthy spicing but not like the spice rack fell into the brew kettle.

M: Witbier fullness with a distinct dry and spicy edge. Peppery/prickliness kept my palate interested.

O: I think this may be a work in progress but I like what they've done so far. I'd definitely seek this out again to check its' progress.

***Heath, Roman, and I were at Fountainhead on 8/29/11 and had the opportunity to try this again. Having Roman there was valuable for being able to compare his stinky/cheesy foot smell to how this beer smelled to us before. The beer came to the table in a nice 5 Rabbit pint glass and I immediately brought it up to my nose for a big drag. Hmmmm, sweet tropical passion fruit and other fruity aromas...not even a trace of rank smelly feet (Roman had been wearing socks all day and his feet stunk like this beer the first time we had it!). We really liked the direction this beer is going and we changed the smell score to reflect that.***

On tap at Hopleaf Chicago.

I wanted to try this beer from local brewery I just recently read about. Beer isn't bad, it's actually pretty decent. BUT, it just feels a little watered down, almost like a 'lite beer'. This is a whit lite.

Taste is pretty decent, the passion fruit comes out pretty strong...very fruity. I didn't really taste any spice.

Overall a decent beer to try, but feels very lite. I'd get it again, it's super drinkable in the hot weather.

Served in a 5 Rabbit tulip pint glass at Bad Apple.

My prep beer before standing in line for Small Animal Big Machine. Nice. It pours a cloudy light orange juice topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises light orange zest and even lighter coriander. I was surprised to find hardly any nose on this thing. The taste holds notes of tart-ish orange juice, grass, flowers, watermelon, light greens, light black pepper, and light lemon peel. The body is a hefty-feeling light, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta dry finish. Overall, a pretty nice wit, one that straddles the line between kinda tart and kinda hoppy, with a dash of spice for good measure. I just wish it had more of a smell to it...

Had on tap at the Map Room. It's a light, hazy straw yellow with a very thin head. The smell was kind of foul--maybe I just don't like the smell of passion fruit in beer?--but the taste picks up a little bit, light wheat malts, grapefruit hops, and the passionfruit/lime addition is evident and adds a unique and acidic note. Very light, somewhat fizzy mouthfeel.

Overall I'm not too excited about this one--it's kind of one-note. Definitely a summer/lawnmower beer if you were to drink it, or maybe a good companion to fish tacos.

A: Hazy, pale golden yellow with a small, fizzy white head which quickly dissipates to a ring of foam. No lacing to speak of.

S: A rich mix of citrus and spice with underlying yeast and wheat malt.

T: Wheat malts, grapefruit and lime.

M: Very light.

D: True to style with interesting notes from the passionfruit that is added. Definite grapefruit, acidic undertones.

Appears a cloudy yellow golden hue with bright effervescent fine bubbled white head. Fine speckled lacing left behind as it dwindles.

I don't know much about this beer it's a wit with lime instead of traditional orange citrus peel. But other than that it smells, like bready wheat, lime citrus notes are bright and lively, mild fruitiness with spice kicking out some character...again it's aromatic like a light summer citrus perfume.

Flavor zings the palate with lime juice sour character, penetrates to a numbing level of tart and spices on the palate. Extreme tartness with each sip, almost a salty sour like those found in a German gose, it dries the palate out completely with coriander and lime zest...the bottle mentions passionfruit and I'm looking for it but I can't find that traditional tropical fruity citra like character. It blossoms some floral quality definite acidity with the lime zest, and more fruit juice and spice combo in the finish.

Mouthfeel is dry finish, a slightly salted rim glass may help this beer it's margarita like in nature with the witbier/lime hybrid creation going on add the spice character drying things out and this finishes like the desert. Light to medium bodied carbonation carries it all well.

Overall, this beer was drinkable however, I feel it was a challenge for my senses and the palate to contain everything that was going on. A bit of a cluster but at least I enjoyed it, and I plan to do some food pairings with it.

Unmarked bottle at 42 degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of coriander (weak) and some unidentified tropical fruit (strong)
Head small (2 c m), off white, fizzy, quickly diminishing to 2 mm ring
No lacing
Body light yellow, hazy: bright yellow sediment in bottle
Flavor surprisingly tart with a fruity flavor which unfortunately ends quickly.
Palate light to medium, watery, carbonation lively

Being part reptile, the name alone made me try this beer. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor, not knowing what passionfruit tasted like, and always enjoying a little lime in my beer. The tartness of the brew surprised me as well; I was expecting the sweetness of a weisse, not the tartness of a Berliner Weisse. This is a brew I’ll try again, despite the lack of head and lacing.

A - A bit light on carbonation just a 1/4 inch of head that fizzes out very quickly. The beer is standard hazy bright yellow.
S - Smells of mild coriander spice and some fruity yeasts but it has a bit of sour fruit funk which is interesting.
T - Its actually quite good the sour note isn't fierce as expected like a squirt of fresh lemon. The spices are a bit timid and the actual yeast is fruity and inviting. I like it.
M - Light to medium bodied easy to drink.

Overall I am impressed with this beer it is quite good. I would drink it again.

This is definitely an interesting beer. When I saw "cerveza" on the label I thought perhaps it had some kind of Latin American origin, but it doesn't. If it did, I might have given it higher ratings as it would be one of the better beers from the region.

It opens with a mild aroma - almost too weak for the style - that is interestingly pungent of fruit and yeast. The appearance is on the slightly green side of yellow - odd and interesting as well. The taste is all over the place - yeast, fruit, sour, sweet. More nuanced than most of this style. The aftertaste is also mildly fruity and sour.

I like this beer. Had it not been from Illinois I would have been more impressed (but there are loads of great US beer makers).

Appearance is a pale cloudy lemon juice yellow with a big white head that fades quickly leaving no lace.
Smell is of strong citrus rind with a light bready crackery malt coming through behind the big dose of lemon and passion fruit. Coriander is subdued but there is a pepper scent.
Taste is sweet upfront but then a big tartness of lemon peel and grapefruit. Coriander is very slight on the tongue but tartness is the overall king of this beer.

A: Hazy yellow color with next to no head
S: Wheat, cloves and what I'm assuming is the coriander/passion fruit but it just doesn't work quite right

I was pleasantly shocked by this beer. A friend picked up a random six pack sampler not knowing what I was into, and I ended up trying this a few nights later.

A - Cloudy yellow with a single finger head, effervescent bubbles

S - Lime and citrus, pretty much masks any other flavors

T - Tastes like a berliner weisse, very carbonated, tart acidity (probably from the lime), and a very nice faint hint of passion fruit that just takes your mind off of the lime-yness for a second

M - Total berliner weisse mouthfeel, champagne like bubbles and a nice acidity that make pucker a little

i picked up more of this after trying, it stands out to me because it is not something I would have tried otherwise, but thought it was great.

Appearance: Pours with about two fingers of head, settles to less then one finger while drinking. Light banana yellow color that is very murky, no visibility through the beer. Active carbonation while drinking.

Smell: Lemons and Lime dominate. Comes off as a doughy bready aroma. Some bubbly yeast character and wheat accents. Leafy greens on the undertones. A little single dimensional though, could use some more complexity on the wheat tones, the lemon/lime comes on too strong.

Taste: A slight watery wheat front. The high carbonation creates a bright feeling on the palette. A little weak but picks up with a bitter body of citrus fruits. Again the lemon and lime dominate. The finish is a funky sourness which lingers on the palette for a while.

Mouthfeel: Sour. The high carbonation really comes through strong as well.

Overall: A decent brew. I got to try a sample size at work and sprung for a six pack. A good summer drinker that has very bright fruit accents which can be a nice change of pace for summer beers.

Cloudy golden, with thick fizzy head of white carbonation. Sudsy, insubstantial lacing.

Nose is sweet wheat and a rush of floral, citrus, and tropical fruit. Very nice and unusual.

Taste is very malt-forward, with accents of mango, passionfruit, and plenty of lime. This is a tropical fruit-oriented wheat beer that would go down perfectly in a warm weather situation. Easily sessionable, and an enjoyable, unique brew.

Is this what Corona would taste like if it were good? Poured into a glass from the bottle, the beer was a golden color with a slight white head. The aroma is immediately noted with a big hit of lime. Unlike some beers made with lime by the Big Boys, the lime does not seem synthetic or candy-like in the aroma. This was a good initial impression. In the initial taste, one detects lime, wheat, and an occasional note of more bitter lime like rind. There is a definite sweetness, yet the beer finishes dry. One may even catch a note of more exotic yeast dancing across the center of the tongue. The carbonation would seem to be incline to erase the lime note, but the citrus is strong enough to linger for a few moments. Overall, this would be a great warm weather beer or an excellent partner to Mexican food.

Pours a HUGE, white head that has impressive retention for a wheat bier. Wheat aroma with a slight tartness behind it; Lime hits near the front, notes of the passionfruit are in the distance. Flavor is sour/tart with the lime being dominant. Mostly a piss-yellow/straw color with nice turbidity. As the lime peaks in tartness, the malt smooths out and then the passionfruit comes into play near the middle to end. The finish is fruity and malty, with only the malt lingering for any length.

As I pour the bottom bits in, the aroma becomes more subdued and yeasty, but the flavor seems even more tart than before!

You know, I kind of love this one. In summertime, it's FANTASTIC. In the summer heat, the watery mouthfeel is more of an advantage, too (so I won't knock it down in score).
It is DEFINITELY not for everyone, though. The lime and wheat could come across as especially off-putting to anyone who doesn't regularly eat Mexican food (lime makes EVERYTHING better!)

Wow, what a cloudy beer! Makes me thik of cloudy lemonade thaks to the addition of merengue! Very quick head and no foam. This beer is opaque!

Lots of lime and tangy passion fruit. I get a hint of salt in there too. I think there's a few more traditional smelling Wit spices I pick up, and just a touch of water cracker malts. Pretty powerful spice aroma overall.

The lime and passion fruit overpower this beer from the start and middle of teh palate. The finish lets a more salty cracker malt flavor inch its way in to the fruity, tart bombardment.

The palate is chalky, dry and tart. Interesting beer overall, in many ways, but not one I will buy again.

I had no idea what I would think of this beer. Received as an extra in a recent trade. I am NOT a fan of Witbier at all so I was a little apprehensive....

Which led way to my pleasant surprise by how easily drinkable and fairly flavorful this beer is. Light and bubbly with just a bit of tart showing through. I am used to clubbing my tastebuds with Russian Imp Stouts or big IPA's. I was really looking for something light and refreshing and this did the trick. Light, cloudy straw colored with a good amount of carbonation. Nice coriander and tart lemon/lime taste. Straight 4's across the board.
