Notes/Commercial Description:
5 Grass is a refreshing yet substantial beer that is pale in color and nicely hoppy. With this beer, we wanted to invoke the brisk, clean aroma of the desert. The recipe makes use of three unique hop varieties as well as some carefully chosen herbs and spices - juniper, sage, and Tasmanian pepperberry, among others - to give a beautiful outdoorsy scent. With it’s smooth clean malt flavors and a unique, complex nose, 5 Grass is like a refreshing walk in the wide open spaces.

Apparently this is the 800th brewery I have tried. I was thinking of a more grandiose approach to this, but oh well, this is how it's going to be.

What the hell? What spices did they put in this? Did they just order a massive wad of herbs wholesale and throw them in?

This seems very much a gimmick to me. Pretty much everything from this brewery does, from what I have read. I am in no way looking forward to trying the other beers I have picked up from them.

Poured into a tulip from the bottle.
Pours a lovely orange/copper with a dense foamy head that leaves tons of lacing.
Love the aroma. full of spice and lemon and grassy dankness and some pepper as well and a caramel sweetness underneath.
I love the taste of this beer! I get plenty of citrus, lemon especially as well as the spiciness and dank grassy notes. A nice, dry finish as well.
The mouthfeel is very nice, medium and smooth.
Overall, I thought this was a wonderful take on the pale ale and was extremely refreshing and inviting.

(Served in a stemmed strange)
A- The reddish-brown body has a slightly dense hazy and a lumpy bubbly beige head.

S- A patchouli hint turns to medicinal sage as it opens up.

T- The sage and rosemary flavors are strong with a band-aid hint and some herbal medicinal flavor lingers with a slight salty quality and some peppercorn spice.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a gentle fizz and no alcohol heat.

O- This beer reminds me of a ricola cough drop without the menthol. There is no malt flavor or hops to help cut all the sage and rosemary.

Tried this beer at the Midwest Brew Fest in Plainfield. It poured a clear orangish amber with white head that laced nicely. The smell was mostly potpurri (sp?) with hints of citrus. The taste brings in more of the same, with a big grassy flair. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fairly dry finish. Overall, a decent beer that hit the mark....but I couln't drink more than a sample of it.

Draft pint at the Village Tap.

Slightly hazed, reddish copper orange, micro-sized trails of carbonation, that released in a swarm when swirled. Ever present foam that maintains a decent head and leaves concentric rings of lace on the opposite side of the glass.

Aroma seems a bit muted, slightly bready with a peppery yeast tang. Flavor is moderately bitter, big on the pepper and sage i'm guessing, not getting much rosemary sweet/savory qualities. It's earthy and bitter without any apparent hops, which is novel on it's own, but still not very distinct. Body is nice and fairly creamy, medium heft with ample carbonation. Very dry finish, grassy earthy and bitter. Overall not bad, something i'd drink again if I wanted a dry bitter APA.

I picked up this single 12oz bottle fromm the Binny's store in Bloomingdale, IL as part of a build-your-own six pack for $9.99, making this single bottle $1.67. No freshness date.

The beer poured a hazy copper color with a half finger of off-white head. Retention was short but the lacing was decent.

Grassy hop smell with spices, sweet malt, and a touch of fruit.

A very unique tasting beer with lots going on. Carmely sweet backbone with very seldom used hops (Newport, Pacific, Jade, and Pilgrim) to add some bitterness, and grassy notes. Sage, junier, and pepperberry give it some spiciness and a touch of fruit.. Throw in some unfiltered wheat and that completes the flavors. There's a slight bitterness to the aftertaste.

Very smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel with medium body and medium carbonation.

It's so different you're probably going to either love it or hate it. I'm leaning towards loving it. Not crazy about the other three number 5 beers from this brewery, but this one I like.

A - A very weird shade of brown with tons of mini floaties throughout. Head was short lived just a 1/4 inch that fades to a mildly sticky lace ring.
S - Well it is quite grassy and I can smell some peppercorn along with some flowers? It's an interesting smell I didn't expect for a beer kind of smells like potpourri.
T - Very herbal and spices with an almost oaky finish. I really can't taste the hops over the flood of sage and peppercorns but it is mild enough and balanced to drink. Second sip it taste more like tea leaves and berries. This beer is all over the place!
M - Kind of watery, not very hoppy but overall light to medium on the palate.

Overall a very balanced herbal beer but with a name like "5 grass hoppy ale" I really expected more hops. Still it is quite good.

Bubble gum peppery almost like a cherry sour nose. Be a fun recipe with some fresh wet hops imparting some of those resins. Deep amber color with some spice in the flavor. Pepper and Berry-ish. Sage? Sure. The pepper to me is more part of it. Junipers is on the back and this might be a real good cool evening summer beer. Bit thick on the after taste. Not bitter. But, lingering. Good beer for grilled meat. Served at 55f.
