A - Pours a black, almost engine oil like colour with large frothy tanned head that retains fairly well

S - Dark, sweet malts with some faint hints of toffee and caramel aromas

T - Coffee, dark chocolate and definite sweet malts with a slight bitterness.

M - Medium to full bodied and low carbonation

O - Sitting here on a cold winters night this beer is actually going down nicely. Well balanced sweet malts along with a slight bitterness that is smooth. I like it.

640 ML bottle into a tulip
ADZA has not reviewed this?? Crazy

A-- Pours a dark cola color, settles a near black color. Some ruby at the top of the beer. Half finger of light mocha colored head. Falls off to a thick collar. Fast moving ABV legs and a little bit of lacing. Not that thick for a 9.5% beer.

S-- Caramel, roast, malt, nuts. First thought was reminded me more of frangelico with the strong nutty character with a good sized caramel nose to boot. Very well hidden ABV. Expected more alcohol but this is well reserved.

T-- Caramel, nuts, milk chocolate, chocolate syrup. Sort of like nutella in a way. Bitterness is reserved but there in a grainy sort of way. A little more ABV but quite well hidden. Not real thick but has some depth which is good.

M-- Slightly Sweet and slick feel. ABV hidden well. Bitterness is more evident in the mouth but not close to the 60 IBU's advertised. Thinner bodied RIS. Not a huge amount of body but it does work and do the job. Medium light bodied and enough carbonation to carry this.

O-- Actually pretty good for what this is. Needs more body to make this really sing but for a first effort it is quite good and workable. Really the best part is that the 9.5% is very well hidden and that is very good.

Lacks the body that Clout, Wild Thing, Ox and Mornington have but straight out of the bottle this a better beer that needs no ageing.

This review is dedicated to Mulder1010 and it pours a very dark kola hue with a creamy tanned two finger head and lacing everywhere, the smell is raisins, dark chocolate malts, dark fruits and ash,the mouthfeel is a tad light with nice moderate carbonation and has tastes of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate,a nice hit of vanilla and finished like a milky coffee where none of the high ABV to be seen anywhere and overall it's an average take on an old style but easy enough to drink cheers.

From Dannos, no BB.

A - black n tan, but the head fades quick, real quick, no lace no film. Looks like drinking flat coke after a while, sadly

S - roasts, hint choc, nuts, caramel.

T - roast, choc, somewhat astringent bitterness on back palate, and an unwanted dull stale note. Caramel screams through as it warms.

M - a tad lightweight for style, i.e. medium weight, no noticeable alcohol tho, low carbonation.

O - more of an extra stout than RIS, I am not overly convinced. Just lacks any real character and a full body. Where is the lushness that normally accompanies an RIS? Well priced tho.

Bottle: solid brown pint bottle (640mL), standard craft label. A decent package.

Appearance: pours a solid chocolate brown tending toward black, no light visible through this one. A finger of frothy tan head pops up and hangs about for a little while before disappearing with absolutely no lacing. A feeble and sporadic cap is all that is left. Decent, if not overwhelming.

Aroma: some definite roast characters - coffee and cocoa - with a touch of caramel and some molasses. No spice but plenty of aroma overall which is nice for a stout.

Taste: some definite roast characters - coffee and cocoa - with a touch of caramel and some molasses. No spice but plenty of aroma overall which is nice for a stout.

Aftertaste: pretty much follows the nose but stronger in flavour - a roast bitterness with that caramel sweetness backing up nicely. Not the most rounded Russian Imp, but still pretty decent. I can definitely feel the ABV - not so much an alcohol warmth so much as a strength of flavour that implies its higher ABV.

Mouth feel: not much moderation in the profile, but the sweetness does come through a fair bit stronger. I certainly couldn't down this one too quickly, which to be honest suits the style anyway.

Overall: this is a good Russian Imp - good for a decent ABV whack every now and then, either after a bad day at work or when in the mood for a slow-sipping, higher ABV, full-flavour stout. Overall not the most fancy beer ever but it definitely gets the job done - I thoroughly approve.
