A guest review from my wife of one of her favorite fruit beers.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into an Ayinger pilsner glass. Pours a peachy amber color, cloudy and fairly fizzy with a thin skim of head.

In your face tangerine aroma; clementines, tangerine rind, honey and hints of malt combine for a very pleasant smell. Think Orange Crush, but not as sweet.

Taste is much milder than aroma. Tangerine is still prominent, with a mild bready flavor, with the maltiness quickly fading for a quiet finish.

Has a thinish mouthfeel, somewhat soft and refereshing due to the citrusy zing. The tang is felt more than tasted, likely due to the carbonation.

The strong tangerine flavor combined with this brew is how a wheat beer should be; forget adding the orange to Blue Moon, this is the beer you want! (799 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into an Avery pint glass.

A - hazy honey orange, big white head that recedes quickly leaving a thin layer.

S - Sweet tangerine orange, little hint of malts

T - At first I wasn't that impressed, but after a few tastes felt like this was a fairly balanced, some tangerine, nice malts, actually tasted a bit of hops.

M - Medium bodied medium carbonation

O - Okay brew, the tangerine taste seems a bit forced, is a refreshing finish (460 characters)

12 ounce bottle served cold in glass pint

A) Rusted orange haze; lacy white head settles quickly.

S) Rush of citrus fruit. Sweet, mild ginger spice, sour dough

T) Sweet and malty, Hops are barely present

M) Refreshing bubbly spiked tangerine fizz, similar in texture to orange soda. Smooth and drinkable

O) Lives up to its name -- tangerine beer. (352 characters)

I bought this one on a whim to try a wheat beer that was mixed with an orange taste. I was personally trying to get something that was like Shock Top, but better in taste.

This one is definitely that. Its a bit sweeter than what I was expecting, but the orange is complimented by the wheat very well. Its kinda light, almost no bitterness, and goes down smooth to the last drop.

I don't know if I'd buy this with food, cause it does ride the palate a fair bit, but its definitely a good kind of "kick back and knock one down" kind of drink. (542 characters)

Pours a hazy orange with a 1/2 inch orange-white head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace drip back into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is a mix of tangerines and oranges with some slight grain aromas. Taste is of intense tangerine up front (fruit and zest) with a wheat aftertaste. This beer has a pretty good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good fruit beer that delivers much more than I was expecting it to. (494 characters)

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy beige color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of tangerines, some wheat. Taste is tart, lots of tangerine, a touch of wheat, a slight bitterness at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a drinkable and enjoyable beer. (284 characters)

My grocery store's beer selection just got re-orgainzed, and you know what that means; discontinued beer. Tangerine Wheat was one of the victims, however I did score a six-pack for just $3, and this is a beer I've had an eye on for some time. Better get the tick now. On to the beer:

The color is toasted orange with a moderately hazy body and a short head that splashes a few drops of lace around the glass. The nose is full tangerine. Not a "fake smelling" tangerine, but a freshly cut tangerine with a crisp and quite sweet scent.

This is good stuff despite having an overcarbonated body. The flavor remains dominant of the tangerine fruit, but not nearly as succulent as the aroma. There's a very light tracve of malted wheat to balance out the fruit. Hops are very light in this one as well, but I swear I tasted something piney-like. Surprisingly, its carbonation provides much of the bitterness, in a club soda kind of way. The body is light, and the carbonation is very peppy (bet you didn't see that coming).

A more than reasonable offering from the fruit beer category. While I prefer the essence and balance of something like Hangar 24's Orange Wheat, Tangerine Wheat is a little bit of a breakup from the usual orange flavored wheat ale. (1,254 characters)

22 oz served into a russian river goblet

pours a pale hazy golden color with a small head.

heavy heavy citrus smell. almost smells like orange glo. would be "that guy" and say its overwhelming but im finding it refreshing

alas the taste fails me. taste like the orange cleaner i mentioned above. its too overpowering. at least i know my liver will be squeaky clean now

i mean if your in the mood for something unusual try it. or if you cant get those pesky stains off your liver, try it (491 characters)

L: Pours a slightly hazy orange-amber color with a medium sized white colored head that leaves some lacing down the glass as it fades.
S: Smells of sweet toasted wheat, some malt, and a nice amount of tangerine in the nose.
T: Tastes of sweet toasted wheat, some toasted malts, and then a lot of tangy tangerine citrus flavors. Pretty nice actually, I liked how it wasn't too sweet but had a lot of tangerine flavor.
M: Smooth, fresh, refreshing, perfect amount of carbonation, light feeling, tangy, and fruity.
D: Very drinkable, this would be great on the beach. Overall a nice mix of flavors and feel. It was more tangerine flavor than I was expecting and I surprisingly liked it. (683 characters)

Well, what a little Shandy we have here. Oh wait, it's not a Shandy. Pretty close though.
Slightly hazy orange, bit of a head and no lacing.
Smells very mild, just a hint of citrus and some caramel and wheat.
Taste is much stronger than the smell. The citrus dominates with a bit much of the bitter peel. Not very sweet and a very dry finish. The wheat really isn't that noticeable, but it is there in the background. Mild carbonation level gives it a zingy feel that pairs well with the citrus.
Overall a nice summer beer. (523 characters)

Served on-draught into a pilsner glass at The Lab gastropub in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed from notes. Served with an orange wedge (against my preferences, mind you).

A: Pours a one finger head of fair cream and thickness, and nice retention. Colour is a hazy copper.

Sm: Extreme citrus esters are quite strong, but this may be from the orange wedge. Very fresh and pleasant.

T: Tangerine and orange fruit ester hops. Very sweet. A light barley foundation is surprising; where is the wheat? Simple but well balanced and nicely built.

Mf: Smooth and wet, complementing the flavour.

Dr: Very drinkable, but lacking complexity or inspiration. I'd have it again at a lower price. (704 characters)

12oz poured into pint glass

A- Pours a light orange color with absolutely zero head or lacing. pretty bad if i should say so

S-ugh, unbelievably strong tangerine, it smells like tangerine scented cleaning solution. very metallic too. not sure if it was ok to drink

T/M-exactly how it tasted. tasted no wheat considering i drank tangerine scented cleaning solution. the body was fine though, a little too bubbly though, felt like soda

O-not a good fruit beer whatsoever, very poor beer. could not even finish it (514 characters)

12oz bottle via Beermasons. Poured into a Great Divide goblet.

Pours a dull orange, reminiscent of a jaded Irn-Bru with a slightly off-white head of foam that fades too soon.

Tangerine is certainly there in the smell of this. In fact, it is pretty well the only thing there. A kind of earthy, sweet tangerine smell that reminds me of another soft drink sold in Australia, whose name currently evades me (something Spring).

Taste is also soda like, plenty of sweet tangerine there and that is about it. Any wheat beer base is totally dominated by the addition of the tangerine.

Syrupy and soft drink like, it is not overly refreshing. Feels thicker than it should, perhaps that is the syrup on the front of this.

Overall, as soft drink, it would be ok, as a beer it is less than ok. Very disappointing and difficult to finish. (830 characters)

Poured out of 12 oz bottle into Shiner drinking mug

A) Hazy orange, not much head, not much retention and no lacing. There were a few bits of sediment noted.

S) Like opening a container of mandarin oranges for my son. There was faint wheat aroma.

T) A few scoops of Tang mixed with beer. It is not terrible, but it is not good. The finish is like medicine. If I'm being specific, and I will be, it was like Delsym orange flavored cough suppressant.

M) Lighter side of medium, not too much carbonation. Pretty crisp and kind of dry. Not the aftertaste for this beer drinker.

O) I like fruit beers for the most part. Perhaps I would have enjoyed this more on a hot summer day, but I sincerely doubt it. (705 characters)

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy honey color with just a wisp of a head that fades away rather quickly without leaving any traces

Smell: Tangerine, no doubt, but there is a hint of unnatural powdered candy, too

Taste: The tangerine flavor builds and builds but the beer ultimately tastes like one of those chewable aspirin tablets I remember from long ago - yuck!

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with crisp carbonation

Overall: Couldn't hack the memories of children's aspirin that this beer brought back for me; drain pour (528 characters)

A: some lacing, murky golden color and half finger head.

S: Mostly tangerine with malt background.

T: Lot of tangerine throughout making this very refreshing from start to finish. No hops really. Mostly wheat background.

M: light body and high carbonation.

Overall: Bascially alcoholic flat fanta. It was good but not what I want from my beer. (347 characters)

The Tangerine Wheat from Lost Coast is very good. If your hanging with some hotties and want them to try a good fruit style beer....this is it. The appearance I thought was lacking...the color was a cloudy burnt yellow color. The was zero head present and no lacing. The smell was AMAZING....like an orange Life Savor....very good! The taste had a big orange/tangerine taste with hints of spices. This could be compared to a Blue Moon with Orange Peel. The mouthfeel was very smooth and easy to drink....great summer beer. (522 characters)

Pours a hazy golden yellow hue which leaves a fast vanishing two finger head and a very little rim of lacing, the smell is basically one of the most strongest fruit inspired wheat beers ive ever sampled and has aromas of very strong Tangerine a touch like sunkist and with a twist of candied wheat, the mouthfeel is light bodied and very similar to sunkist with its high carbonation and the only tastes i can phathom from this brew are obviously Tangerine, candied wheat and fruit punch and overall the Tangerine is way too overpowering and doesnt let any other flavours shine and i would not buy again it almost reminds me of sunkist mixed with vodka cheers. (656 characters)

355mL bottle courtesy of Beermasons subscription.

Lightly hazy orange-straw. Aggressive pour yields a finger of white head that dissipates to nothing. Looks listless.

Nose really does smell like freshly cut tangerine. Barely detectable grainy wheat notes. That's all folks.

Taste has maybe a tad more depth. The tangerine is complemented by a clean earthiness from the wheat. Still, I'd much rather a tangerine flavour that was hop-driven..

Easily the best part of the beer. Refreshing tingly carbonation with the wheat providing nice texture and some length.

Is what it is and does what it does. Probably be very enjoyable in peak summer. (644 characters)

12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a cloudy gold color with about a half inch white head that went away quickly. Not much lacing at all. The beer smells mostly like tangerines, along with a little bit of wheat. It tastes kinda like a watered down sugar substitute tangerine/citrusy soda would taste. Not awful, but not exactly good, either. Mouthfeel/body is light, it has good carbonation and it's not hard to drink. Overall I can't say I'm impressed with this beer at all. I like the aroma, but that's about the only thing I like a lot about this brew. With that being said, I'd still try this again in the future just as long as I was only buying a single bottle and not a 6 pack. I've had worse but I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy more than a single bottle of this at a time. (805 characters)

Large bubbled, quickly dying head. Leaves no lace. Very cloudy as it should be. Orange, dirty amber color.

Strong, sweet tangerine aroma--almost smells like orange juice or children's aspirin. I detect no wheat. Reminds me of Grand Marnier.

Think lawn mower beer with a shot of orange liqueur added or perhaps orangina with a shot of vodka. Either way it is a bizarre flavor that I've never experienced before. Normally, this would get extra points, but I'd say this is a clear miss. There's no wheat, the beer is too sweet and the aftertaste dies quickly. The body is okay, though.

It's drinkable, but just barely. (619 characters)

On tap at St Augustines in Vancouver.

A: 1/8" white head over straw coloured liquid with excellent clarity.

S: Very strong smell of tangerine and a faint smell of wheat.

T: Very sweet, almost reminds me of Fanta tangerine soda.

M: Medium level of fine carbonation and medium viscosity.

O: A very drinkable wheat ale with fruit, but it may be too sweet for some. (366 characters)

I got this on tap at a beer house bar. Very nice appearance: it has an extremely thick, milky and super cloudy look that I've never seen. The predominant aroma when you smell this beer is of, well you probably guessed, tangerine. Hints of wheat can also be found.

The taste is also as 'advertised', with a very predominant tangerine taste which, in my opinion, was a bit too strong and hid the usual qualities of a beer that I look for although I must clarify that in the end this a vegetable/fruit beer and this is to be expected. The fact that tangerine is not among my favorite fruits also applies the aforementioned taste points.

Overall, a good beer and highly recommended for those looking to try something different and specially to all the tangerine lovers. (767 characters)

Cloudy straw colour with a creamy white head. Limited lacing.

Very, very juicy tangerine with plenty of sweetness.

Very orangey, in fact it is just like Sunkist. There’s not really any malt here nor is there anything particularly appetising unless I wanted soda.

Medium body with moderately-hgih carbonation.

This is just like a glass of Sunkist only with a touch less sugar. For me it is over the top on the fruit flavour and it lacks any sense of finesse. (463 characters)
