Draft in a Pilsner that the barkeep warmed up with his hands because I asked for a room temperature glass.

A: honey amber in color, nice head and lacing
S: subtle even when allowed to warm up, malt, caramel, very mild herbal hops, toffee
T: knocks me out of my chair--honey, toffee, Scotch, herbal hops, alcohol, sweetness
F: medium thick, creamy
O: outstanding flavor and drinking experience, can't wait to find it again!

On tap at the brewpub in Eureka.

Pour is medium amber-brown. Excellent head and sticky lacing. Clear. Light for style.

Aroma: medium malts with a wallop of alcohol esters.

Flavor: hmm, Scotch Ale? Mildly bitter. No smoke or peat. Light malts for style. Very boozy for ABV.

Feel: medium-light bodied with medium carbonation level. Body seems too light and it is too harsh.

O: just OK: boozy and not true to style. Did not finish this one.

Clearish dark amber colour with a small foamy white head. Fair head retention. Good lacing.

Slightly malty with a touch of spice. Quite sweet. Notes of Scotch ale but also seemingly lacking richness.

Sweet malt then a big wallop of alcohol. Quite a bit of fruit. Lacking caramel and toffee notes.

Medium body with moderately high carbonation. Okay.

Slightly confused as to whether this is a Scotch Ale. Tasty though.

I had never had a "scotch ale" before Lost Coast's, so when I saw this on tap at a local pizza joint I had to try this--glad I did!

THE BODY is a bronze, amber color. Looks like dark honey. It's actually a very unusual color: almost root beer-like. This brew had very little head coming straight from the tap to a tumbler, but there was nice white sudsy lacing throughout the whole drinking experience.

THE SMELL of Lost Coast's "Scotch Ale" is phenomenal! It is very grassy with huge aromas of vanilla and cream soda.

THE TASTE is also amazing. I have had wee heavies before but this is quite different. I am interested to try more scotch ales now because this one blew me away. It is extremely sweet though smoky at the same time. The cream soda sensation is very strong in the finish.

THE FEEL is sweet and creamy. It is quite carbonated, but not too much so. The sweetness is very pleasant but unfortunately hurts its drinkability. 8-10 oz. is probably more than enough for this one; a pint gets a little exhausting towards the end.

Drank at Bilco's in the Napa Valley. A great little joint with 100 beers on tap.

Appearance: Dark brown with caramel tones.

Smell: Malty smoke with hints of oak and peat.

Taste: first sip overflows with flavor. Need 2 of three to sort out flavor explosion. Flavors of sweet molasses with hints of light oak and caramel. Some butterscotch flavor maybe residual diacetyl but doesn't subtract from the flavor.

mouth-feel: This beer goes down well and coats the tongue in a sweet cocoon.

Drinkability: Superbly drinkable and enjoyable. In fact had 3 first night I tried this tasty find.

Pours hazy dark brown, amber with low white head, aroma is honey and sweet caramel, really sweet.

Caramel sweet, odd bitterness leaves caramel in the mouth, not very complex or entertaining.

Not a fan of this, a little overcarbed gives it an odd feel in the mouth.

Know listening to: Kiss - Great Expectations

Thanks to Beechwood for having this on tap!

A- Dark reddish brown body, with thinning sides. Slight redish tint to a short head.
S- malty, peaty smoke and carmel
T- same as smell, but much more malt than expected
M- This is a beast of a beer, disgusiing itself as a simple scotch ale.
D- This is a onesy beer. If I had two of these, I would need to go to bed. Not necessarily because of any high alchohol content, but because each pint drinks like a meal.

Consumed 04/27/08 at Beachwood BBQ, Seal Beach CA.

Moderately dark brown (think of a cola with some melted ice cubes). Two finger tan head with very fine bubbles.

Sweet caramel malt aroma.

Sweet butterscotch grain flavor. Molasses. Some bread notes, some caramel/chocolate notes. Clean finish, almost no bitterness. Maybe a little hop would cut the sweetness, but I didn't find that a problem as I finished this pint in near-record time, each sip as delicious as the next.

Texture is a touch on the thick side (and that's a good thing).

This is a very, very good wee heavy and I'd have it again anytime. Way to go, Lost Coast!

Appearance: Dark amber highlights on a dark brown body with a thin off-white head which disappears almost immediately.

Smell: Very fruity with major caramel notes. Pretty straight-forward weeheavy.

Taste: Very sweet molasses, caramel and fruit come out immediately and seem to dominate the palate, but at times some slight chocolate comes through and even slighter bready character. It is a very impressive wee-heavy coming from a brewery that I tend to find overly 1-dimensional.

Mouthfeel: It was thick and lightly carbonated, but somewhat cloying and not as clean as other scotch ales I've had.

Drinkability: A glass is enough for me, and I probably wouldn't have it again, but it's not my favorite style to go back to again and again. It makes a nice nightcap, and I can see it cellaring nicely. If you like wee-heavies this is definitely one to try.
