How has 8 Ball Stout slipped under my radar? It's not like it's hard to find or expensive. How this took until review # 1,308 is anyone's guess. On to the beer:
In the median of white and tan is the color of the head, which is a finger's thick. It sits on top a body of black that isn't letting the light in. Strings of lacing are left in the glass. Moderate hoppiness in the nose, a little mocha and roasted malt. Mocha mixed with hops? I prefer fewer hops in my stout, but that's just me.
There's nothing wrong with the intensity of this beer's flavor. Slightly sweet with some roasted character to it. I'm getting roasted coffee bean notes. Mocha as well. Towards the end of the palate, the hops come to play with a game changing hop flavor that I wish there was less of. It's a chewier beer; it's got a medium-full feeling with a touch of sizzle from the carbonation. The aftertaste is somewhat astringent and hoppy, yet milk sweet as well.
The flavors I describe should warrant a higher score, but the way they were exceuted and blended could have been better. I still think Winterbraun is the best beer I've tasted from Lost Coast. That being said, 8 Ball Stout is pleasant stout and fairly affordable.

Pours black with a light tan head.
Nose shows cocoa and roasted malt with a little sweet liquorice in the background.
More roasted malt as a flavours but not particularly complex. Again a hint of liquorice shows as well as some faint coffee but it's pretty subtle.
Could use more carbonation.
