Served from tap into a sampler tumbler. Poured red-orange with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, caramel, and dark chocolate. The flavor was of sweet malt, caramel, chocolate, and slight alcohol. It had a medium feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a pretty nice Barleywine. It hid the alcohol in it quite well. The chocolate touch on this one was also quite nice if I'm honest. I could see myself having quite a few of these without thinking twice about it until the ABV caught up to me (~9% IIRC). This is a must try for sure.

First off, huge props to Beersignal for sharing this circa ~2001 brew he had hidden away in his private stash.

Appearance: Dark brown/Copper, with little to no head. Not surprising for an aged barleywine.

Smell: Nice caramel, spicy and sweet, almost like a fruit cake, with a phenolic finish.

Taste: Big on alcohol, very thick and powerful, quite malty, with zero hops. I kinda like mine a bit more hoppy than zero, but for a long autumn night, this one did a fabulous job.

On tap at Lucky Baldwin's in Pasadena, CA.

Dark bronze with caramel highlights. Head disappeared before before I knew what colour it was. Smell was underwhelming at first, but as more glass was available, the aroma revealed a lot of dark fruits. Taste of molasses, semi-sweet malts, and raisins/plumb skins. Light carbonation on medium, lightly syruppy mouthfeel. A sipper, but very drinkable.

Pours a dark amber brown color with a whiteish head.

The aroma is sweet and full of malty sugars with potent english ale yeast fruit esters.

In the taste, sweet malty sugars, brown sugar, molasses and alcohol. Toffee, cocoa and Nutella round out the flavors. Alcohol is noticeable.

Medium bodied, well carbonated ale.

Overall, this is a big, kick ass barleywine. Worth checking out but it will also check you out...

Medium amber, chill haze, with low white bead, dissipates quick.

Aroma is dark malt and caramel, very light.

Flavor follows the Aroma, dak malt, nutty caramel and light hop flavor, light bitterness for balance. Leaves some hops in the mouth.

Kinda underwhelming, a nice beer but probably not one I'll get again.

Bomber with a homemade label specifically for the purposes of the Mondial De la Bière 2001. 3 yr old sample.

Poured a warm and cloudy russet colour with a fading caramel cream tinged head of no real staying power.

Fully malted with butterscotch notes in the nose up front. The middle and end were equally interesting, yielding hints of saltwater taffy, oak and leather surrounded by earthy autumn tones. Quite charming.

Wonderfully full figured beer with a silky and mellow texture that gives way to generous hits of spicy malt and a heady alcoholic bitterness to balance the beer. Mild notes of candied fruits are harmoniously intermixed with the maltiness and are cornered by a long and warming aftertaste.

Ideal nightcap brew but one must be patient... three years is a long wait to go to sleep.
