A: Poured from bottle. Very nice, transparent light brown color. Nice foamy head, a bit of lacing leftover.

S: Raspberry astringency, no notable hop aroma.

T: Meh. Good light roasty notes, with a clean finish, and then a raspberry flavor that lingers on the midpalate. Not very bitter. Decent, but not great.

M: Light bodied, bubbles up in the mouth.

Overall, I'm not too impressed with this. It tastes like it was made with economy in mind, and lacks complexity and... flavor, really. Drinkable, but wouldn't recommend.

On tap at the brewpub in Eureka. Sampled immediately after the regular Downtown Brown.

Pour is dark amber-brown. Excellent head and sticky lacing. Clear. Better, creamier head somehow.

Aroma: medium malts with a good hint of chocolate and a strong dose of natural raspberry.

Flavor: Raspberry is a bit overdone, and lingers on even in the aftertaste where it seems less natural.

Feel: medium bodied with soft, medium carbonation level. Smooth.

O: good chocolate raspberry beer, but there;s nothing subtle about the raspberry.
