On tap at the Draught House during the 43rd Anniversary party.

The beer pours a clear amber color with a white head. The aroma is very sweet with a lot of toffee and caramel notes, as well as a ton of sugar. There is little to no hop profile in the aroma.

The flavor is also very sweet and unbalanced. I get a lot of toffee and caramel with not too much else coming through other than a little bit of grain.

Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

The brewery's own website said they modeled this after Negra Modelo so I don't think it was brewed with the beer geek in mind. I don't know how it compares to their target, but I didn't find it very good.

Picked up a growler of this today at the Whip-In Austin. Pours a dark brown, nearly black, color with a fluffy cap of off-white head. Decent retention and spotty lacing. It's a pretty good looking lager, reminds me of a darker Firebrick from Schell.

Nose is malty sweet and damn near bock-ish. Nice nutty background with a lagery yeast twang. Toasty caramel and toffee for the most part.

Has a nice breadth of flavors ranging from sharp burnt sugar to caramel to a clean hop bite on the finish. Body is full for the style and drinks with the greatest of ease. I am quite impressed with this, my first Twisted X offering. A tough style to nail down and they did a great job, it beats the piss out of Negro Modelo and the like. Its been a couple years since I had a Firebrick, but I'll be damned if this one is not at least just as good. I will have no problem tackling this growler. Tasty stuff!

I really just dont know where to begin with this.

Smell is just ....well.. soapy.

taste is pretty awful, so awful since the first one ive had to have 1 snaked in between beers i consider, decent or good, because the taste is so bitter and just very harsh.

mouthfeel is what it is, a beer mouthfeel. not overly heavy although it does stay with you.

very much wanted to like this beer after reading about the brewery, but i just cant fathom why they would bottle this but not the stout i hear so many raving about. Hopefully the xpansion will bring them more success and abililty to actually bottle the better beers.

edit-just wanted to add i drank the whole sixxer to make sure it wasnt a quality issue. All of them had the same overall taste etc(unlike some where ive had a few skunks and the rest were sublime..)

I actually liked this allot more than i thought I would, and for a low abv beer found it relatively sessionable.

Drinking this beer would be like taking water and adding beer flavored alka seltzer to it. The only use for it would be to drink it after eating a dozen oysters or a night at the Waffle House. This would at least speed up the digestive process, allowing a swift yet violent end to the evening's culinary mistake

"Always drink upstream from the herd", but still tastes like domestic piss.

Pours clear copper with foamy head slight retention, smells of bready malts and grains, tastes expands from sweet roasty malts to yeasty to slight caramel with a smooth finish creamy mouthfeel.
