Extremely dark with no visible carbonation, topped with a finger of beige head.

Smells so sweet and chocolaty, like vanilla and chocolate syrup. Hints of cocoa dust and toasted malts.

Slightly sweet with Hershys chocolate sauce, vanilla, toasted malts, and only a hint of ash in the aftertaste. Hints of green coffee.

Medium body, moderate carbonation.

Found this one in Perth today, and I'm drinking it in Preston Beach, Western Australia tonight. Really well rounded brew, worthy of its status in this country.

Thin tan head. Dark brown verging on black body. Cocoa and vanilla evident, but less desserty and more bitter than expected. Would prefer a creamier mouthfeel. Expected a cocoa latte and got a long macchiato.

330ml bottle poured into a pint glass.

Very deep brown to almost black in color, the pour builds up thick creamy tan head that well retains itself with very good retention before slowly collapsing to an eternal foamy crown and leaving lots of lacing on the glass-side.

In a nose, mild chocolate, some cocoa, some roasted coffee, vanilla, caramel, burnt bread, and creaminess, all from malt.

The taste is led by roasted coffee with some sourness at time. Then it is subtle chocolate, a bit cocoa, vanilla, caramel, burnt bread, as well as some sweetness and smoothness, again all from malt. There is moderate bitterness at the end which is mostly derived from roasted malt and partially from hop.

Medium body with quite smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation through the palate, the feeling is a bit crisp with a dry finish.

Pretty good Porter with lots of roasted profile, it is not that much creamy or rich in chocolate as it advertised but tends to balance between the various kinds of malt.

On tap in a pint glass. Good colour, creamy tan head. Not much aroma.
Flavour is toasty malt, roast beef, cocoa chocolate. Some pumpernickel breadiness as well. Not overly complex. Enjoyable but nit overky interesting.

The Temptress is ok. Trying it at the Sail & Anchor in Freo. It poured an opaque dark with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent had waifs of chocolate and coffee. The taste followed the scent with some vanilla added in. The Mouthfeel was lighter in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's ok certainly worth a try.

Regrettably brief review for a 330ml bottle purchased at Beer Lab in Chiang Mai, Thailand for 290 baht.

6.0% ABV. "Infused with Dutch cocoa and whole vanilla beans." OG 1.058. IBU 31. EBC 60.

A: Khaki head is thin but longlasting, retaining for 7 minutes. Body is a deep dark ruby-black.

Sm: Vanilla, dark malts, chocolate malts, sweet moist bread, malty sweetness.

Unfortunately, the vanilla isn't particularly deep or expressive, and doesn't come off particularly genuine.

A subdued aroma that indicates a shallow but balanced chocolate porter.

T: Yup - shallow across the board, with a heavy chocolate malt presence, ample dark malt sweetness, and some faint vanilla with an artificial bend. If I tried this in a blind tasting, I'd figure it was brewed by Rogue.

Contrary to the label, I find no coffee or caramel character.

Not imbalanced even if it does tug towards the sweeter end of the spectrum.

Shallow, simple, enjoyable.

Mf: Smooth, medium-bodied, wet, approachable. Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.

O: A mediocre stab at a chocolate porter that goes after nothing more than satisfaction of basic style conventions, Temptress is a shallow simple brew with meagre ambitions - and frankly, it's far from tempting.

From bottle, very dark brown with beige head. Aroma of caramel; taste of caramel and chocolate, very creamy and smooth. Medium dry finish. A very tasty ale.

I had a 330ml bottle bottle. This beer won a silver medal in the Craft Beer Industry of Australia 2014 Craft Beer Awards in the 3B category of robust porter.
Appearance: very nice dark brown chocolate colour. Good tan head.
Aroma: immediate chocolate aroma present straight out of the bottle. I was doing a comparison tasting of this with the Hargreaves stout which was clearly at the coffee end of the spectrum and this beer is well and truly at the chocolate end.
Flavour: smooth to drink, chocolate flavours continue on the palate. Hint of vanilla as brewer infuse vanilla bean in the brew. Medium mouthfeel and some creaminess present more than moderate carbonation but not high fizz. Middle palate has some sweetness probably from infused Dutch chocolate. Not much bitterness in the finish which suits the flavour and sweetness well.
Overall: very nice chocolate porter. Enjoyed it. Worth a try.

Holgate, those likeable chaps from Mount Macedon 69 clicks out of Melbourne (the Victorian variety), are a decent craft brewer from my previous forays into their Road Trip and Hopinator, that seem to be chasing a craft style that is a touch American (i.e. well-hopped brews) with a hint of Aussie (i.e. let’s not overdo it as Australians can’t handle big hops). I appreciate what they bring to the table whilst at the same time wishing they didn’t pander to the MCM - Mass Craft Market: My term for people getting into craft brews because of (its now) immense popularity but who also can’t handle a beer with hops, so they seek a faux-hopped beer to look cool and wax lyrical over how “impressive” and “fruity” the hops are in said beer... Wow, am I now a beer snob? Nah!

Poured from tap into a 425ml Schooner.

A: Clear cola body with a half centimetre tan head. Not bad, not terrific, not qu'est-ce que c'est - average, sorta better than. 6/10.

S: Notes of milk/dark chocolate with a hint of roasted coffee, vanilla extract and an odd (for a Porter) floral hop note lingering in the background. Not as chocolaty as it should be with a name like “Chocolate Porter”, I’ve smelt more chocolate in a hardback copy of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 6/10.

T: Here we go: Some bold chocolate upfront, with hints of the above (coffee, vanilla) and a slight bitter floral hop finish. Tasty and moreish. Although that floral hop finish is still quite distracting for the style... I’ll forgive it just this once. 7/10.

M: Nice and medium bodied with a light but dense carbonation. Again tap beers do benefit greatly over bottles in the mouthfeel. 8/10.

D: It is overall a solid and tasty Porter. Interesting hop finish given the style but I say it works well in presenting the taste buds with something different. The ABV at 6% is intriguing as it doesn’t feel any more than a 4 or 5% brew so they’ve hidden that well. Temptress is classic Holgate territory, they generally put together a solid brew without any muss, they aren’t quite as good as Feral or Little Creatures, or my new fav HopDog though so I really don’t go out of my way to buy their brews. 7/10.

Food match: Something gooey, chocolaty and beefy - how about a stew with chocolate, beef and a hint of chilli (because you need to add chilli to chocolate these days, it’s a rule).

Brew from BobbyHeenan. Cheers!

From a bottle into a snifter
Brewed with Dutch cocoa and vanilla beans

APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour produces a one finger, loose, crackly, cream colored head with lousy retention. Head quickly fizzes down to nothing really. Looks flat rather quickly. Clear dark brown body with no carbonation. Finishes flat.

SMELL: Dark malts, chocolate malt, light vanilla and caramel on the nose. Cocoa and sweet creamy as well. Bold enough.

TASTE: Quite empty really. Not much up front at all. Light cocoa perhaps but that's reaching perhaps. Some light chocolate, burnt malts and a touch of sweet cream lingers after the swallow. Slightly metallic finish isn't all that enjoyable. A plastic, metallic flavor accompanied by stale chocolate lingers and lingers long after the swallow.

PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation. Bubbly on the palate, goes down airy and finishes slightly sticky. Too light and bubbly, unfortunately.

OVERALL: Not my cup of tea. The look was rather lousy, while the metallic, plastic, artificial and stale chocolate didn't really do it for me either. The thin and bubbly body didn't help the situation either. Thanks again for the box Bobby. They can't all be winners.
