Pours dark brown with a small head.
Nose shows soft roasted malt, coffee and faint chocolate.
Hefty flavours, more roasted malt and some bitter-sweet earthy coffee too. Some hot alcohol shows.
Too much carbonation.
Needs a bit of time to settle down.

If there was a score ror packaging, this would be right up there. Great presentation and label.

The beer itself is not quite black with a thin dark brown head. Low carbonation but not as highly viscous as some beers with less abv. Settles nicely and the head sticks around for a good while.

All the right components for the aroma. Plenty of crystal and chocolate with a touch od dry roast and alcohol. Does well to tread that line of porter and stout especially considering how much malt there must be.

Easily drinkable but would be a disservice to drink this too quickly. The flavors really do evolve as it warms and plenty of dark malt character to consider as you sip through the bottle. Lots of chocolate and a bit of toffee and coffee.

Good stuff. Justifies the price tag, and thats saying something.

Pours a very dark brown with murky red tinge in it. Head is mediocre, beige-coloured with a thin ring and some small but sticky trails of lace. Not bad.

Smells beautifully chocolatey, rich and dark and sweet with a good belt of roasty espresso as well. Complex, chocolatey sweetness, a slight alcohol whisper and slight burnt character as well. Tasty, aromatic big porter.

Taste is not quite as good, sadly. All the flavours are there: chocolate, roasty malts but the booze kind of gets in the way. Sweet on the assault, chocolatey with caramel and vanilla. The alcohol then gets quite warm and the flavour strong; ethyl hints and some espresso burntness. Nice and sweet but mildly bitter roast on the back. Yeah, just that booze whoomph in the middle just throws it a bit off-balance.

Full body, but a bit flat at times. Not bad for the style but could use more rise and fall where the flavours swells and dips.

A good beer for tasting but not everyday drinking.

On-tap at the Local Taphouse for their Great Australian Beer SpecTapular. This was the last I tried on the day, and it was a very decent way to finish up.

Pours a surprisingly clear reddish brown/black colour, certainly not a lot of haze or opacity to the body. No or only minimal head, perhaps a light gauze of film on the top. Looks a little thin even. Very strange for a beefed up version of the Temptress.

Nose is lovely and swelling with chocolate liqueur characters. Dark, sweet and supple, but very boozy as well--you can sense the alcohol in this, it almost makes me choke on the fumes. Woo.

Taste is very powerful, incredibly bold and rich, like liqueur again. Lots of chocolate, with a darker and roastier hint of coffee and plenty of booze. Wow. Big, robust and powerful beer. Nice feel as well. Although it looks light in the body it sure doesn't feel it.

This is a tasty beer; a very tasty beer indeed. What's more, it's a big ballsy effort, and I applaud Holgate for making it.

A - black / brown body. One finger tan head. Dies fast. Little lace, little film.

S - choc, coffee. Muted for ABV. Little smoke.

T - choc and coffee to the fore. Add toffee and caramel as background elements. Deep malts and quite a dry finish.

M - Light carbonation but the body is lighter than I would expect for ABV or style.

O - yes a good beer but not a great one for its size. It's the big sister of temptress only in bottle size and ABV. Little sister packs a relatively bigger punch than this.

Pitch black colour with a creamy tan head.

Vanilla and sweet chocolate lead the aroma with lots of sweetness.

Good, sweet flavour with lots of chocolate and vanilla. A mild coffee note comes through as well. Mild roast bitterness.

Full body with low carbonation. Silky smooth.

The alcohol is very well hidden in this tasty and full flavoured beer.
