Wish I’d read the first review of this place before we tried to find it: no signs, its location under a corner of an unlit mega (decaying) old brewery, nowhere near a road or street lighting and locals not even knowing it exists didn’t help our finding of it. We eventually stumbled across a dark car park and some rough land to notice low lighting in the cellar of the aforementioned large, defunct brewery. This was on a bitterly cold, dull evening in Jan 2012.
Once we found the entrance the four of us burst in and shared a table with a young couple: everywhere else the tables were full: so some people knew how to find the joint. Almost square in shape the basic bar room was smoky with a good half of the assembled customers smoking, a slippery tiled floor almost did for one of us, she managed to grab her husband and stayed upright, made for a grand entrance though as she slid towards a table full of beers. Benches to sit on, with bench length tables, a few smaller round tables dotted about as well. Mixed clientele, suits, students, small groups of friends (like my party) and loving couples (like the two we sat with, which might have ruined their evening!).
Four of their beers on tap: tried them all, obviously fresh, the actual brew kit is hidden by a false wall behind the bar, friendly staff, free snack bowls at the end of each table, replenished when and if required. Had a good chat with one member of staff, got the low down on the old brewery and this smaller new place: got good vibes from the whole set up. Just needs to put some signs up, so visiting beer hunters can find them.

One of the newer places on the scene in Berlin, and easily in the top 5 beer destinations. A new brewery brewing in a great space under the huge copper brew pans of the old Kindl brewery in Neukolln.
Its only open Friday and Saturday evenings. No food for sale, but they offer a wood/charcoal grill on the terasse and guests are welcome to bring their own meat/grillables/picnic. There is a supermarket around the corner.
We tried several beer styles and all were very good.
The Weiss was buttery with banana and clove.
The Maibock was lightly fruity and sweet (and not hot!)
The Helles had a nice pilsy hop bite.
The Rot was halfway between a helles and dunkles.
(its actually pretty amazing to find this many in house styles available on tap in a single location in Germany).
Great people, great destination.
Our other top destinations in Berlin:
1. Brewbaker (now in a Markethalle at Arminiusstr. 2-4 10551 Berlin)
2. Eschenbrau in Wedding
3. Sudstern (near Rollberg - for their XXX triple bock)
