Tallboy into an oversized tulip.
A- Copper color, ceaseless carbonation, perfect clarity and a full, sudsy head. 4.75
S- Fruity with cherries and berries, floral notes and biscuity, bready malt. Been awhile since I've had a beer with this sort of profile---been too many American IPAs in my life, I suppose--- and I kind of enjoy the break from the norm. 4
T- Like the nose, it's got some dried, almost tart cherry fruitiness, earthy floral flavor meeting bread and biscuits. I quite enjoy the earthy mix with the orchard fruit. Very nice. 4
M- Light-bodied and carbonated with a smoothy drinkability. Touches of fruitiness meet earthy, vegetal currents. 4
I applaud ABW for making an English IPA despite the fact so many in the US turn their nose up at the style. They do a great job of proving themselves at this style and also making a delicious EIPA. Lovely.

Has a bit of a lager or cider consistency with a malty overtone. Smooth, with a touch of bitterness, and not at all hoppy. The color is a beautiful copper filled a lot of carbonation.
Overall, the flavor is uninteresting and confused.

16 fl oz aluminum can served cold into a pilsner glass at low altitude in Austin, TX. Reviewed live as an English IPA per the label. Expectations are above average.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: 2.5 fingers wide. Off-white colour. Nice creaminess and thickness. Supple. Has a nicely soft complexion and an even consistency. Retention is good - about 7-8 minutes. Leaves light webby lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes.
BODY: Clear translucent copper of average vibrance. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.
Appears well-carbonated. Not unique or special for an English IPA, but generally appealing.
AROMA: Toasted malt, caramalt, biscuit malt, pale malt, light malt syrup, and biscuity well-attenuated English yeast. Faint honey. Some light tea-like bitterness. Hop profile is floral, a biteen sprucey, and slightly herbal. Don't expect any citrusy or juicy West-coast IPA aromatics here; this is a restrained English IPA. No pine, nectar, oils, etc.
A pleasant aroma of average strength.
No off-notes are detectable.
TASTE: English yeast guides the beer, lending it a subtle biscuity character. Caramalt, toasted malt, amber malt, pale malt. Sweetness is mild. No alcohol or off-notes come through. Caramalt dominates - which is a problem, since hops should. And the hop bitterness is about on par with the tea-like bitterness, when hops should overwhelm. The hop profile here isn't terribly interesting - some herbal hop character, generic floral notes, and faint resins.
It's nicely balanced, I guess, but needs fine tuning. I do think it's a cohesive build, but doesn't quite taste like a gestalt immutable whole. Above average depth and duration of flavour. Average flavour intensity.
TEXTURE: Crisp, somewhat refreshing, smooth, wet, and overcarbonated (to the point where it's almost sharp and biting on the palate). Not a pleasant texture; it's certainly aggressive. Full-bodied. Aptly thick.
This texture plays well with the taste, but doesn't elevate the beer.
OVERALL: Very drinkable, but then how impressive is that at a mere 5.90% ABV? It's nice work from Austin Beerworks in a style not many breweries seem to nail, but it's not world-class or anything. Certainly worth trying, and enjoyable, but far from world-class. I do like it and might get it again - especially if the price comes down.
