Growler purchased at the Budge Bros’ tasting room in Spokane for $9. I’ve had this before on-tap at the Baby Bar and from a friend’s growler (both times a couple of years ago), but hadn’t tried to review it. Given the rare appearances of Budge Bros. beers anywhere besides their tasting room, and how they’ve grown as brewers, I decided it was high time to try it again.
Poured a color somewhere between amber and orange that was somewhat hazy. Big, sudsy white head that took a few minutes to drop. Quite a bit of lace left on the sides of the glass.
Big, citrusy and piney hop nose. The aforementioned hop scents are pretty well matched, with neither gaining supremacy over the other. I can barely detect a mildly sweet malt aroma.
Hops are quite forward in the flavor. The bitter, piney hops kick in first, and are then joined by their more citrusy associates. A small amount of malt backbone holds things together but doesn’t do much more. Bone dry hop zap at the swallow. This is an IPA for those that like ‘em bitter.
Medium bodied, with a sticky, hop-resiny mouthfeel.
A decent IPA at what is for around here a pretty good growler price. Not my favorite of the style, as I find it a little bit one-dimensional, but it’s still pretty good. Oh, and it’s less than a 15 minute drive to the brewery, which is always a plus.

On tap in the tap room.
Pours a dirty yellow color. Cloudy. Pineapple juice color
Smell is a light citrus aroma.
Taste is a bitter cereal flavor with a strange dry sweetness.
Mouthfeel is full bodied and fairly cloying.
The beer is over malted and overly yeasty. Might be better filtered.

A: hazy yellow ale with a ring of white foam and no lace.
S: reminds me of Devil dancer, but really light. Lots of weed in the nose. This keg is a little old. I have had this fresh and it's much better.
T: follows the nose but with a yeasty flavor (safale 05) and some sweet esters.
M; a bit heavy for the style and low carb.
O: needs a little adjustment on the filtering or attenuation. Also time sensitive beer in my experience.
