Poured on tap at Churchkey. This is a collaboration brew with Oliver Ales brewery. Listed as a Rye Pale Ale.

A dull amber cloudy brown orange body. A caramel light head sits on top with very good retention, light creamy/foamy consistency and tight bubbles. Real good sticking and creamy looking lacing.

Nose is spicy complimenting the rye notes with a big herbal tea sensation from the hops. Chewy spicy malt eventually dominates.

Taste brings a good herbal tea hop presence, but a VERY malty and cinnamon sense. Extremely soft bodied bordering on cask like feel. Brown spices emerge with a long lingering hop finish and creamy backbone.

Overall a real solid job guys. Nice work.

From 10/04/11 notes. Had on tap at Churchkey in DC, served in a pint glass. Wasn't sure whether to put this under 3 Stars or Pratt Street Ale House (who they collaborated with on this, and where I believe it was brewed), but since this beer existed and a PSAH entry did not, I'll put it here. From the CK menu:

"Brewed with malted rye, centennial and whole leaf cascade hops: dry hopped w/ cascade hops."

a - Pours a hazy dark orange color with two inches of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of bitter citrus hops, floral hops, rye, and some spices. Pretty nice.

t - Taste is very bitter and a ton of rye. Also some spices, citrus hops again. Not bad but very bitter...not liking it as much as the nose.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Bitterness in the mouth but almost seemed like it was on cask.

o - Overall a decent beer from a new brewery in the area. I love Pratt Street Ale House so it's cool to see a collaboration already, just wish the taste was a little less bitter. Promising start, looking forward to trying their other offerings.

On tap at Churchkey.

Pours a cloud dark orange color with a well carbonated off white head; nice retention and light lacing. Pleasant spicy, grass, and floral hop aroma. Medium full body with light carbonation and a soft cask like texture. Strong rye body with light orange and citrus bitterness. Finish is unfortunately dominated by butter and tea turning this from a pleasant experience to something undrinkable. I enjoyed the start of this beer and am would love to try this again somewhere other than Churchkey (how many times can I say that?).
