8.00% ABV confirmed. 1 pint 9.4 fl oz brown glass bottle with waxed over (beeswax according to the label) pressure cap and appealing artful label served into a conical Samuel Smith's pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are quite high; I've heard great things about Logsdon and saison is one of me favourite styles. "Specialty organic farmhouse ale" brewed with brettanomyces. Unfiltered. "Best by 11/2017. Bottle number SB 24106. Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth." "Enjoy served at 48-54F." This is my first Logsdon beer.
Served straight from the fridge - right in that 45-54 degree Fahrenheit range. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: Even with a standard, non-vigorous pour, the beer yielded a 7-8 finger head. Pure white colour, soft-lookng, with god cream and even better thickness. Retention is damned impressive (~9+ minutes) for the high ABV. Body colour is a clearly unfiltered hazy vibrant yellow-gold. No yeast particles are visible - at least this high up in the glass. No bubble show. Light sticky lacing as the head recedes. Looking good for the style; everything's copacetic.
Sm: Soft pear. Fleeting light brettanomyces yeast character. A bit of biscuity spice. Light lemongrass. Lemon custard. Farmhouse/funky. Crisp apple. Clove. Hay. Light fresh wheat. White grapeskin. A hint of white pepper - but not as much as I want in a good saison. No milky character either. It's a soft, fleetingly light aroma that signals refreshment to come. I hope it delivers.
T: Delightful pear notes, with white grape skin and crisp apple skin. Lemongrass forms the body. It's not as funky as I expected; bretts are there but are mainly biscuity. The sweet pear nicely balances any funkiness that might otherwise have been present. Just a hint of tartness. Any hop character is primarily floral, but that isn't the highlight here. Clove spice. Light crystal malt, lending it a somewhat tingly feel. Really refreshing and well balanced, with no alcohol coming through at all. Lemon zest. A bit of pineapple ester flavour, which I'm not huge on. Buried white pepper - so buried it's almost imperceptible. This is a really tasty saison, but it lacks the complexity and subtlety of superior Belgian offerings (namely Fantome and Dupont). The pear in particular is a highlight here and is masterfully executed. It's quite juicy. I'm really liking it. Well put together.
Mf: More smooth and wet than most saisons, but also perhaps more refreshing. Perfect carbonation. Feels tailored specifically to its flavour profile. Juicy. Great body and presence on the palate.
Dr: Incredibly drinkable for the high ABV. I really like this beer. Lives up to Logdson's reputation. I'd get it again. It would probably age well, too. Would pair well with many foods. I look forward to trying more beer from Logsdon. It's one hell of a siason - especially for an American example of the style. Tasty stuff. I'd recommend it to friends. A solid example of a style that's difficult to pull off.

This was a gusher! The super cloudy, yellow ochre liquid was topped by a gigantic, tight, frothy, off-white crop of sea foam. As the head faded, it left big chunks of thick, sticky lacing in its wake. Due to the gushing, large yeast particles made it into the beer and eventually collected in the base of the glass. A thick, foamy film coated the liquid and lasted throughout the session.
The aroma was really interesting and complex. Crisp and fresh. Super fruity and funky with lots of bretty tartness. Powdery and dry yeast notes were quite apparent. Spices, including clove and coriander, were noticeable as well. With time, the tart and funky qualities intensified and the nose turned almost gueuze-like.
There was also a ton going on in the flavor profile. Sweet malts came through on the front end. I thought I picked up some Belgian candi sugar as well. Quite fruity. Pears and apples were detectible. Wheaty with notes of lemon and hay in the center. Hint of spice (clove especially). A musty, barnyard-like character was apparent. Touch of oak. As the beer moved along the palate, the flavor profile dried out substantially. Citrus rind and bitter, earthy hop notes lingered in the crisp, dry, lemony finish. As the beer warmed, the musty, funky, barnyard character intensified. Some white wine-like qualities appeared as well.
The mouthfeel was outstanding. As would be expected with any gushing beer, this one was highly effervescent. Almost Champagne-like. The light, frothy, fluffy liquid turned pillowy soft after it settled on my palate. Amazingly plush and silky smooth.
While there are a number of brett-infused saisons on the market today, Seizoen Bretta takes the cake in terms of overall complexity and mouthfeel. I aged my bottle for nearly a year and would recommend others to do likewise if you want the brett to be kickin'. Just be careful when you pop the cap!

Hazy golden color with a massive white head.
Smells great - stone fruit, flowers, peppery spice, some bretty sharpness, good complexity, extremely attractive.
Tastes terrific - peach, hay, spice, moderate but refreshing acidity, dry, long finish with just a touch of bitterness developing, good intensity of flavor, balance, complexity, and drinkability.
Tiny bubbles, cushy texture, extremely refreshing and drinkable.
One of my very favorite saisons, never fails.
