Had on tap at Mikkeller Bar SF during Zwanze Day. Poured into a 33cl Mikkeller wine glass.

Pours a pale, slightly orange-tinted amber with a wonderfully frothy head - resembles Orval in many respects, although definitely not as creamy or oily looking. Excellent little bubble streams cling to the sides of the glass, complete with excellent head retention and lacing. Slightly viscous, and given the ABV, this comes as no immediate surprise. Looks pretty great and appetizing - memorable like their other offerings but the extra dose of Brett is already doing fabulous things to the frothy head at hand.

Smells really fantastic - I realized from the very beginning with Logsdon that they knew exactly how to make complex, highly aromatic farmhouse ales, but this is definitely a home run for them in terms of combining balance and funk. At first there's strong notes grapefruit, lemons, and green apple, only then to reveal rose hips and violets, as well as musty funk and pineapple-y sour note from the Brett. Filled with baking spices from the oak at the finish, ranging from baking soda to allspice. Very well integrated - nothing really overrides the other, and it seems really meticulously crafted from the get-go.

The flavor definitely is on par with the aroma, with one key difference - a dried texture and flavor that really catches you by surprise, but makes the experience all the more refined. Notes of pears, green apple, light stone fruit, and lemon peel immediately met my palate, only then to meld into an array of herbs, flowers, and spices. Violets, light green pepper, white pepper, baking spices, almonds, as well as a light caramel, sweetened tone from the barrel. The funkiness is really nice here, producing a slightly sour, yet mainly acidic flavor that melds well with the dryness and fruit flavors. Creamy, and well carbonated. A near perfect drinking experience in terms of body.

What a beautiful beer this is - it really puts most Brett-infused saisons to shame. I have a feeling that the Brett they are using comes naturally in the barrel, and rather, it further accentuates the fruit and spice notes, as well as the intriguing addition of pear juice that produces secondary fermentation. I'd imagine this would age very well in the bottle - it'd be a little less fruit forward and green, but the dryness and spice plethora would make it even more vinous than it even is. Every variant of their Saizoen series has been fantastic, but for the sake of everyday drinking, this is probably my favorite - and also one of my favorite farmhouse ales made in the US, period.

My first beer from this brewery. 750ml waxed and capped bottle into Tired Hands stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a monstrous 4 finger frothy light cream colored head with great retention. Beer is a clear orange-grapefruit. Lacing is thick, layered and web-like with excellent stick. A really awesome looking beer.

Nose is Brett, citrus, papaya and pineapple. Clean, crisp and refreshing. Good complexity and really appetizingly sweet. Aromatic too!

Opens citrus, hay, and Brett funk. Coarse and light lemon tartness mix with a sweet cane sugar flavor. Pineapple, starfruit, and grapefruit too. More funk and earth at the end. Finishes hay and farmhouse. Aftertaste of sweet citrus and Brett. Really good.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively in the mouth and crisp and dry going down. Finishes soft and clean with a slightly lingering aftertaste. Excellent.

I haven't heard a ton about this brewery but Seizoen Bretta is the real deal. An under-the-radar brew for sure. Seek it out and be impressed by it!
