Big three finger head, agitated and whipped up, very airy, bleached white, nice retention, good amount of thick splotches of lacing as well. Not a lot of shine, has more of a worn gold hue, dense presence in the glass, hardly any bubbles visible, wonder where that big head came from. Steady and strong nose of tangerine, orange citrus, cinnamon, chamomile, white pepper, lots of earthiness and herbaceous qualities underneath, when warming the peach, apricot, yellow apple fruit comes through more clearly, good clarity for all of its richness. Full-bodied, dense and foamy in texture. Peppery, has a “green” edge to it with a metallic touch. White grapefruit, sour oranges, the citrus pairs with the aforementioned to cut through the fluff and refresh. Coriander, clove, and some cinnamon. The fruit more green apple, pear and apricot pit, not as sweet as the nose suggests. Any banana or bubblegum seems to appear mostly retronasally. Admire how it is not wimpy and overzealous in trying to please. The florality is an escalating component as it approaches finish. Not that yeasty, maybe some toastiness. Overall, not that sweet but it never seems arch. Comes across as crafted in a very “traditional” style, like great-grandpa would approve.

Pours hazy and golden with a finger high fluffy white head. Terrific head retention and a coating of lacing.

Right off the bat there is a wave of peppery spice, lemon grass, bubblegum and cheese and almost smokiness that comes from the Brett. Quite fruity as well pear, crisp apples and young nectarine.

Washes the palate with green apple, soft nectarine and pear fruitiness immediately. Graham cracker malt base with more residual sweetness of cake batter, but not grainy at all. Spices of clove, somewhat peppery and lacking any sense of funk. Quite phenolic, deep into the drink and the yeast gets gritty. Earthy Noble hops finish slightly steely, grassy and dry.

Carbonation is lively but not overdone. Full saison body with that step up taken by the yeast. Very dry and clean.

Well built saison, a little heavy on the Belgian spice and yeast phenols but I truly enjoyed the soft fruit notes and variety in the nose. I would enjoy more of these if it weren't so hard on the wallet.

750ml bottle. Best before 11/2015

Appearance: Pours a golden honey color with 4 fingers of a slightly off white head. Body is slightly hazy with some very fine sediment. Lots of visible carbonation as well.

Smell: Pear, peppercorns, clove, lemon rind, bubblegum, slight grassiness. Really nice.

Taste: Lemon grass, cracker and doughy malt, yeast driven spiciness, pear, grass, light floral hop presence that leads to a very mild bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, soft mouthfeel. High levels of fine still relatively gentle carbonation. Super dry finish.

Overall: I've yet to have a disappointing beer from Logsdon, and this one is no exception. Not their best offering, but still worth picking up.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Bottle No. 2832, Best by Dec 2015.

A real nicey peachy orange colored body. quite opaque and solid colored. The beer is topped with a bright white creamy three finger head and, whipped up retention with rings of lace and clumping. Not much noticeable carbonation through this unfiltered body.

Nose is interesting. A good hint of peppery brett, and a strange almost slight goat cheese like aroma at first. Exploring give much more fruit qualities of the pear, and peach and nectarine stone like fruit quality as well.

Palate brings a good classic saison character. Big farmhouse dryness and brett pepper in the mid palate. Fruit angle washes clean but not with much distinction on the finish. Mouthfeel is pretty solid and standard, with minimal distracting carbonation. Small hints of juiced fruit punch like character.

It's similar to the Bretta but it's fruit character seems much more played down. Pretty solid saison either way regardless.
