A: hazy, pale golden with a great 1 inch white fluffy head. Great retention and lacing. Can't ask for a better looking Saison.

S: Doesn't have a strong smell but I definitely get all the smells related toa saison. Pepper, orange rind, lemon, hay, and the barnyard funky characteristics. It has a crisp and honey aromas as well. Can't ask for a better smelling Saison.

T: Everything from the nose. Very round and full flavored. Got some honey and pineapple. Not as dry as I thought. More on the sweet side, fruity if I had to use a word. Finally I got why it is so fruity. The pear juice makes much complex and more interesting. Like it.

M: Goes down pretty nice. Leaves a little dry sensationbut the finish is long and fruity. I know, it's ironic but the back of my palate feels dry but the rest of my mouth has the lingering sweetness.

O: Great job by Longsdon. It's a greatly done beer. It is probably a little too sweet for the style but I must say I loved it. Woudn't hesitate to order it again. Refreshing and delicious. A must try.

Bottle (2012)

The Bruery Provisions
Orange, CA

Hazed, yellow and golden with a moderately sized off-white head that leaves spiderwebs of gorgeous lace all the way down the glass.

Complete and appropriate aroma of earth, hay, grass, a hint of musty barnyard, and a bit of fruit.

The flavor is similar, and incredibly drinkable. Earthy, barnyard flavors complement hay, grass, earth, and a bit of black pepper.

Medium bodied with high carbonation. Incredibly drinkable and very well crafted.

I love this beer, though I slightly prefer the version with Brett.

Bottle No S7794; best before January, 2015. Poured from a waxed-and-capped 750mL bottle into my Troubadour tulip.

Golden Munsell yellow body, thoroughly cloudy with a creamy antique white finger of foam up top. Pasty sticky lacing; good retention.

Aromatics are pure and alternately sweet and spicy with a mixture of yeast, malt, and pear (no fruity esters or peppery phenols). Faint spiciness and floral notes add further balance and interest.

Potent palate entry is tart with pear and yeast along with grassy hops and hints of white pepper in the finish. Slightly funky and a touch muddled (though still well balanced) over-all, but the flavors are each strong and enjoyable. I imagine this will age very well as the flavors continue to evolve and integrate.

Effervescent, soft, medium-full mouthfeel, though still refreshing from the tartness.

An excellent and unique example of the style - will have to revisit this after a year in the cellar. Very nice to see another producer of farmhouse ales in Oregon - one of my favorite types of ale - looking forward to trying their kriek when it comes to fruition (pardon the pun).
