Pours a red colour, deep and inviting. Head is pale beige, actually more white than any other colour. Large bubbles, lace is fairly uneventful. Not bad.

Smells wild, with notes of sour cherry and some blackberry and raspberry. Slight barnyard funk, slight toffeed edge. Very pleasant Bretty beer with fruit aroma.

Taste is very fruity, with a sweet strawberry jam flavour to it. Has the makings of a tart fruity palate early, but it flattens out and gets jammy, sweet and really insipid towards the back. Mild notes of tart wild yeast, but they just get swallowed up and forgotten. In fact everything gets a bit forgotten here, with the biggest notable character in the palate being a big lack of character. Not bad overall, but hugely disappointing.

Bit of pull upfront, but otherwise fluid and quite flat.

I feel like lost in this beer somewhere is a really interesting character that would have added so many dimensions to this flat, flavourless affair. But there's just nothing here, at least any more.

750ml bottle into snifter. Best by 07/2018.

A: Pours a deep mahogany with an airy and fluffy light brown head that slowly faded into a thick and bubbly collar. Soapy lace was left down the glass.
S: Deep notes of woody oak barrel mix well with tannic cherry skins, red berries, faint lemon and lactic acid, and buttery oak.
T: Not as tart or flavorful as the nose suggested. Cherry skins and brown ale flavors of caramel come through. The finish is lightly sweet and full if woody oak, and the aftertaste is mildly tart and buttery.
M: Medium-light body, fizzy and ample carbonation. Airy, fluffy mouthfeel.
O: Delicious nose but I thought the taste fell short. Not bad overall, but definitely underwhelming.

750ml bottle purchased from K&L Wine Merchants in Redwood City, CA. Brought back to Sydney where I cracked it open with Sam.

Pours with a lovely clear body, but definitely more amber and dull than red and bright. Head forms a fairly fine but carbonated expanse of white that settles down a bit, but still stays fairly frothy and persistent to the death. Lacing forms in coarse streaks. Body is light, but nice. Looks pretty good.

Nose has a slight tilt of acidity to it, but nowhere near what I was expecting. Some mild vinous acidity, perhaps a touch of oak, but fairly mild all up. There's certainly no organic funk, but the acidity is incredibly tame as well, meaning it smells a little weak overall.

Taste is similar. In fact, it may even seem thinner and less exciting. Very weak acidity and a flat body without much complexity leaves it tasting a bit like watered down balsamic. It's clean through the centre, with a tingling vinous character on the back, but there's really not a huge amount going on. It's genuinely disappointing, despite the fact that it's genuinely fairly nice all things considered.

Overall: Logsdon should have a far better Flemish Red than this one. This is thin, weak and lacking complexity and verve. It has some of the basic characters, but just fumbles with them until it produces something really quite pedestrian. C'mon guys, you can do way better, surely.

Enjoyed out of a 750 mL bottle with a crown and neck that has been dipped in what looks like beeswax. Thin and greenish in color. On the side of the bottle, there is a date that indicates this must be consumed before the year 2018. Barely made it! Poured into a Boulevard Smokestack Series tulip glass.

Appearence - Poured slowly to avoid disturbing too much sediment, but am unable to completely keep it out of the beer, with isolated particulate floating around inside the body of the liquid. Said body, however, is a deep cherrywood shade of red, with maroon highlights and a tendency towards the browner side of the spectrum of reddish hues. Atop rests a finger and a half of cream-colored foam that has an active effervescent appearance to it. It dissipates after a few minutes, leaving a healthy ringlet of foam on the edge of the glass and not much in the way of film.

Smell - Out of the glass wafts subtle notes of bing cherry brightness and faint red wine vinegar predominantly. There is also some mustiness from the wood and an impression of wine must, giving the aroma an overall vinous characteristic. Smells like it's going to be pretty tart as well, with sharp acidity poking at my olfactory nerves.

Taste - Sadly, the pinch of sourness that the aroma hinted at has run and hide from my tastebuds. There are many of the same elements that I detected in the aroma, but almost watered down and without that punch that I was hoping for. For those that like their sourness to be subtle, this might be a positive, but for me, it's a tad boring. There is still a nice vinous quality to the taste, with notes of oak tannin and medium but nondescript fruitiness, and there is a slight element of funk that I didn't pick up as much in the nose.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and moderate carbonation, with just a bit of twinge on the tongue from subtle tartness and a predominantly dry finish.

Overall, an alright beer, but there are at least half a dozen in the style that I'd sooner reach for. I like Logsdon overall, but this one just isn't quite doing it for me. That said, this might be a nice entry-style beer for those who are looking to get into beers in the sour end of the taste spectrum, but would like to take it on gradually.
