Finally made it over to Trixie's...here were my thoughts:

A=Typical Wisconsin liquor store...larger inside than I had anticipated (I would guess 60' x 80' or 4800 sq. ft.), but only about 15% off the total floor space devoted to beers. Actually nicer inside than I had imagined, as the sign outside and the parking lot are rather dated.

Q=A nice sampling of microbrews in the side cooler (about 60 offerings in all), with about 60% from Wisconsin, including Ale Aylum, New Glarus, and Potosi and O'so. About a dozen 12-packs or so, including a sampler pack from Great Lakes.

S=I got checked out right away...didn't really spend anytime asking questions or what not.

Selection=Not as widespread an offering as Woodman's, but they did offer a few things that Woodie's does not, mainly Blatz in 24-pack bottles (but the $15 price was not nearly as good a value as the 15-pack cans for $6.99).

V=Some decent offerings...they do markdown seasonal beers to move stock, including Samuel Adams' Oktoberfest for $4.99; their mix-and-match is $8.49, but they only have about 15 styles to choose from. Couldn't resist re-trying a 6-pack of bottles of Natural Light for $3.99--I haven't seen Natty Light in bottles anywhere else in Madison.

They also have chips, dips, and soda.

Worth stopping in towards the end of each season to see if they have any good deals, or if you are in the neighborhood, but not worthy of a special trip. (1,427 characters)

August 2012:

Stopped by here on the way out of town to pick up some New Glarus for a friend. They didn't have Hometown Blonde that a friend wanted, so I went down the street and picked it up at Woodmans. Didn't seem like they had many seasonals. I'd be wary of high reviews from one-day accounts... Obvious shills.

A cool and wacky orange neon vintage sign and large empty parking lot made it hard to miss this store. The east side area was slightly sketchy, but this store seemed ok. Inside it was carpeted and wood paneled, with vintage framed beer-themed decorations up above the door and along the walls.

Counter clerk was friendly and mentioned Madison Craft Beer Week, and allowed us to buy singles instead of a full mixed six.

Selection was good, all the local staples like Ale Asylum, Lake Louie, New Glarus, O'So, Tyranena, and more. Midwest stuff like Founders, Three Floyds, MKE Brewing, Bells, etc. Imports like Chimay, Duchesse, and Rochefort. Weird malt liquors like Axe Head (Black Cherry even). About half the selection of Steve's or Woodmans nearby.

A New Glarus display up front showcased weizen glass flutes, and towards the back were a few other shelves of glasses including Two Hearted pints and Duvel Parra tulips.
Management is receptive to feedback, and will special order if you ask.

Not a major destination, just a convenient alternative to Woodmans on the east side of town. (1,430 characters)

Great selection and outstanding customer service. Any time I stop in, there is always someone there to show me what is new and make recommendations. They are a great source for Toppling Goliath and other favorites in the Madison area. (237 characters)

A group of friends and I trekked through WI on our annual Man Trip this year. We decided we needed some provisions and stopped off at Trixies while we were in Madison. They had an awesome selection of WI finest brews and a knowledgeable staff that was able to answer any question we had which is pretty impressive given the "beer snobs" that I hang out with.

We actually stopped there on our way back to Iowa too because the selection was so good. I definitely recommend you check this place out and say hi to the gang. You won't be disappointed! (547 characters)

Awesome service at this place. They put me on a waiting list for K4 FF and had two sixers set aside for me behind the counter. One of these days I'll spring for their orange hoodless sweatshirt. (194 characters)

Great selection of Wisconsin beer and some other nice surprises. I am two hours away, but I have stopped there a few times now. Once they put away some beers for me which most likely would have been gone by the time I got there. Good people. (243 characters)

Trixie's Liquor is a great place. We were able to visit Trixie's just recently on the eleventh annual Man Trip. We found the selection to be great, but most important, the service was first rate. The gentlemen at the counter were able to talk in real beer language, and were able to steer us towards beer that we had not had before. The prices were very competitive and we walked out with information and brew we needed for the game in Milwaukee. If you're in the Madison area, this is a must stop! (498 characters)
