341ml bottle. For a beer obfuscated by a somewhat (I'm Western Canadian, forgive me) foreign language, 'thirsty' still plays well enough in the sticks, if ya knowhutimean...

This beer pours a clear, very dark, very reddish amber hue, with two fingers of moderately puffy, loosely foamy pale beige head, which leaves a low, barely perceptible vista of ebbing shoreline lace around the glass as it lazily seeps away.

It smells of rather mild biscuity caramel malt, softly assertive yeast, a bit of overly sweet, grapey red wine, and some astringent earthy, leafy hops. The taste is biscuity, grainy, caramel malt, somewhat testy earthy yeast, further soft dark fruit, a very subtle nutty essence, overripe banana mush, somewhat overdone brown sugar notes, and a very understated booze astringency.

The carbonation is laid-back, and generally supportive, the body a decent medium weight, and mostly smooth, the yeast assuming the trickster role. It finishes well off-dry, the yeasty Belgian malt still on top, as the caramel, fading fruit, and prickly booze roll out in support.

A rather enjoyable iteration of the style, so much so that it took me a spell or so before I could acknowledge the little bit of New World sideshow. Tasty, and approachable enough overall to reel in the attention of newcomer and Belgo-phile alike, I would imagine.

A - fully hazy swampy purple brown, thumb of tan head dissipated slowly, fairly consistent lacing
S - molasses and nutty aromas with some raisins and a touch of earth and spice, a little on the mild side here
T - hearty molasses malt with dark fruits and mild nutty malts, hints of phenols in the background, very rich flavours
M - more than medium body, somewhat creamy, finishes rich but not too full
O - a nice dark dubbel, flavours are pleasant and rich, a pleasure to have brews like this is a mixer pack

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar and fruity ester is quite charming. Taste is a nice balance mix between some candi sugar notes with some fruity ester and solid malt backbone with light dry fruits. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with nice drinkability/complexity level.

341ml Bottle

Appearance – Mostly clear reddish brown colour with an average size fizzy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation visible and there is a fairly good amount of lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, bananas, grains, raisins, yeast

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a lower than average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, banana, and raisins, There is also a lot of roasted/burnt/smoke flavour. It ends with a malty dark fruit and slightly bitter/smokey aftertaste.

Overall – It was a little thin feeling and I would suggest scaling back the smoke/roasted taste just a little bit. But, it's still a decent beer and wasn't a waste of money. I wouldn't buy it again though.

Appearance: It has a nice clear rusted amber color to it. It has a nice thick beige head that dies down moderately and leaves nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of molasses, caramel, brown sugar, some dark fruit, some nuts and faint dark fruit.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some sweet molasses, brown sugar and caramel, some dark fruit, an earthy bitterness and toasty malts.

Mouthfeel: It has a low/medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

A clear brownish read beer with a warm off-white head, little lacing but good curtains.

Smelling roasted barley, burnt rubber, blackcurrant leaves.

Starting with brown toast, toffee, fruits, grape-fruit peel.

Medium carbonation, soft and sticky, big body.

A malt dominated brew. Rather bland.

Another treat courtesy of joemcgrath27...

A - Pours a nice dark ruby colour, thin layer of head with little retention or lacing.

S - Mild on the nose, hints of dark fruit, raisins and molasses with a hint of caramel on the finish.

T - Rich flavour with molasses dominating the profile alongside some dark fruits, raisins, toffee, a touch of cocoa and licorice.

M - Medium bodied, smooth and wet.

O - I really enjoyed this dubbel, flavour profile was unique offering up a bit more of molasses, which was a pleasant change to what I'm used to. This stuff is incredibly sessionable and well worth seeking out.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 1/4/12 thanks hoser for the bottle

A hazy dark amber with ruby highlights, it took a couple pours to fit the whole bottle in my glass, massive light tan head holds on pretty well both in size and to my glass

S fruity spice and brewers candy mix well together, some faint banana and booze help the cause

T the banana's nearly gone but I get some raisins and plum, I don't pick up on the hazelnut the bottle claims but molasses I'd really need to go looking for

M almost foamy from the bubbles but not quite, medium bodied and a yeasty, nutty aftertaste lingers fairly strong for a while

O I liked this one and would drink it again, smells and tastes good and I have little to complain about

not sure if this one need to age or not, its drinking well right now. I could see myself revisiting this one in the future

Lightly chilled 341 ml. bottle into a shaker pint. No notches discernible on the relevant portion of the label.

Look- Pour seems thick, leaves me a finger and a half of tight off-white head that falls slowly, sticking to the sides as it does so. Lacing is more a sheet that coats the glass. A clear deep ruby-garnet color that I've never seen quite anything like.

Aroma- Mild, white raisin, nutty, vague tickle of booze.

Taste- Much, much lighter and drier than expected. Bold woody vanilla and nutty, red stone fruits, overripe plum and pomegranate. finishes dry with a vanilla-bean flavor and a bit of toasted graham cracker.

Mouthfeel- Medium-full body; crisp, dry feel with a surprisingly clean finish. Lightly mineral. Very nice, feels substantial without being syrupy or sluggish.

Overall- A nice take on a dubbel, roastier and nuttier than expected or is typical in my experience. Absolutely worth trying, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again. I'd also ignored the descriptive text on the bottle, assuming it would be in French.

A:
Pours a clear reddish amber with a beautiful creamy, teensy-bubbled head. Good retention; very little lacing.

S:
Caramel, earthy funk, booze, nuts.

T:
Soft and mineraly. Dry yeasty tinge with dirt, nuts, and creamy rust. Really good overall flavor with tiniest taste of hops at the end.

M:
Creamy and soft. A little crisp carbonation. Nice smooth finish.

O:
Really solid beer. I haven't many beers from this brewery but will have to check out some more of their stuff. Nice and easy drinking. Tastes slightly more "English" than some dubbels I've had but it is really good. Full and rich and doesn't burn you out.
Would have again. Worth trying.
