Brasseurs Du Monde "Ale de Hardy"
341 ml brown glass bottle, notched "14"

Notes: Hazy deep russet/light mahogany brown body beneath a creamy, yellowed off-white head that drops quickly leaving behind only limited spotty lace. The alcohol is clear. Caramel malt dominates, livened by fruitiness which includes raisin, plum, dried apricot, and apple. Moderate bitterness. No real hop presence, as expected. Quite pleasant except for the alcohol which really doesn't need to be so obvious at just 10.5% abv.

Bottle: Poured a dark hazy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sugar with some dried fruit notes is quite enticing. Taste is a solid mix of caramelized malt with nice notes of toffee and a good amount of residual sugar. Body is quite full with good carbonation and not apparent alcohol. Solid rendition of an English style barleywine with just enough residual sugar.

341ml Bottle from Marche Omni QC for $4

Appearance – Murky brown colour with an average size fizzy beige coloured head. It’s hard to make out the carbonation level due to the darkness of the beer and there is some okay lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell – Malts, dark fruits, anise, leather

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and hops. There is also some dates/raisins, anise, and some earthy notes.

Overall – Pretty solid stuff, reminds me a bit of the Dieu Du Ciel Solstice dHiver. I'll buy this one again if I see it in 6 packs.

Appearance: It has a nice deep reddish/brown color to it. It has a nice beige head that dies down moderately and leaves little lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of dark fruit (grapes, raisins), sweet caramel, toffee and definite sugar.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a strong dark fruit sweetness, sweet caramel/toffee and some grassy hops giving it a nice counterbalancing bitterness.

Mouthfeel: It has a low/medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

Notes: Fresh bread dough, bread crust, port, raisins, red candied fruits, cherry, cola, semi-sweet chocolate, medium roasted coffee, toffee, brown sugar, big bold malty nose with a good complexity as it warms up. Light earthy, herbal hop bitterness. Temperature is key for this beer. Don't drink this cold or you'll miss out. An awesome, rich, big sirupy and satisfying beer perfect for dessert. A big sipper that could be pair with a nice cigar or dark chocolate.

Picked this one up at Peluso in Montreal. From notes.

A - Poured cloudy deep red with good carbonation and a half finger of off white head that went really fast. No lace and no retention.

S - Sugar, dark fruits. Quite sugary.

T - Big boozy fruits, caramel, sugar. The flavour in the finish is a little off or maybe just too sugary. Not bad.

M - Good carbonation, medium body, sweet finish.

O/D - Not a bad barleywine. Less complex than I wanted. The flavour was alright, but nothing I would revisit most likely.
