Nice, cozy atmosphere. Small, but accomadable. For the most part---the bartenders have been good to great over the 15 yrs or so I've been going there.
Ownership has been changed a few times in that period, with no changes....UNTIL, this one.
1 thing, for instance, is....a no brainer that no one used their brains for the last 14 yrs, and that was----multiple tv's with multiple channel ability. Believe it or not....(and this was crazy)....the Westgate had 2 tv's that could only show the same show. Like---you couldn't watch 2 diff games at a time. 1 game--the same game---could only be shown on both tv's.
For 14 yrs! No one figured out or more to the point, cared they should/could be able to watch diff games on 2 tv's at the same time. There are actually 3 tvs there now, and can watch all diff things, on the multiple tv's. Like one should be able to do. EASILY.
That is just 1 change.
One thing that is sort of, buggy, about the new ownership is...the new owner, hovers over the whole operation. It's a small place and...it is overly noticable.
Even a bit uncomfortable.
More beer taps, with the new owner also, from
4 or 5 to 8, or more..tho, none special. And still, with all their advertised beers, (I think, they claim over 100), there are very few from the Beer Advocate's top 150, or so. They have a couple Chimay's and La-Fin's & they have some good Victory beers..(Hop Devil, Golden Monkey...etc) & the likes..but don't look for anything more exotic.
They do the seasonal's but only American.
Food is pretty good.
Megan is the special bartender there. Beautiful, cheery and knows her s***.
My only suggestion as far as product goes, would be to get some BA quality beers in there.
Is a nice place, overall.

Westgate Pub is a small--but very nice--bar and pizza place, right off Route 3 in Havertown, just minutes from Route 1. Atmosphere is very basic; clean, intimate, old-style, not too showy, and semi-family-oriented, as it is also a pizzeria and eatery. The bar seats about 15-20 people with several tables strewn about. Beer selection is pretty good, with maybe 8-10 selections on tap, and a beer garden next door that brags about 90 different selections. Take-out is permitted, and yes, you can buy 6 packs. Food is basic pizzeria fare, but it's actually extremely good. I know it's the suburbs, but you can get a great Philly cheesesteak here, and my wife describes the pizza as among the best she's ever had. Bartenders and staff are generally on the ball and helpful, and prices are nothing to complain about. Recommended if and when you're in the area.
It's also about 10 minutes away from the Tower Theater, so as long as you're driving responsibly (or taking the convenient bus line right there), it makes a good pre-show outing, giving you a much nicer option than searching for a bar / putting your life on the line around 69th Street.
