Great beer. Very Hoppy. Had it on draft then bought two bottles to take home. Enjoyed the draft as much as the beer. The staff gave us a great tour in northern Va. I would encourage this beer to hops lovers. Many of their other beers are great as well. Thanks Mark for the tour.

A: This poured a hazy dark gold with some off white head.
S: It smelled like fresh papaya and pineapple and mango, with some grapefruit and honey.
T: It tasted like bitter grapefruit and unripe apricot, with sweet mango and papaya and honey malt. It had a clean and lasting bitter aftertaste.
M: It had an oily body with a little carbonation. Nice slick body.
D: This was a fantastic IPA. The scent and taste were so delicious, and the body was fitting. The alcohol was well hidden, and the finish was really smooth despite all the bitterness. So it was really easy to drink. Recommended.

A: Pours a pale orange with decent foamy and clingy lace.
S: Aroma points to lots of hops and citrus.
T: A large grapefruit explosion with a hint of the mango used in the brew. The hops are very present though balanced by the fruit and malt taste. This is my kind of DIPA that has malt and hops in harmony. The alcohol is hidden very well and just give a hint of warming as it goes down.
M: Medium body with good mouthfeel. Not syrupy at all.
D: One of my favorite DIPAS of the year so far. I'm shocked that the beer came out this good. If you like balanced DIPAS that bring the hops, this beer is for you.

Hop3Star is a Double Mango IPA. The malt bill includes Pilsner, munich, crytstal, rye, biscuit and flaked barley. Eight hop additions during the boil include: Zythos, Simcoe, Columbus, Hallertau, Cascade, Goldings, Amarillo and Centennial. A total of 118lbs of hops went into the kettle. We brewed two 25 barrel batches, the last runnings from the first batch were used as the base water for the second batch to naturally increase the gravity. We added Belgian candy sugar to the kettle also, to increase the starting gravity. 40lbs of fresh mango were added to the kettle to provide the subtle mango character. After primary fermentation it was dry hopped twice, with Amarillo, Simcoe, Centennial, Columbus and cascade. 33lbs of hops were used in the dry hopping. The starting gravity was 22 degrees plato, final gravity is 3.8 degrees plato. It is 10.1% abv, 150 IBUs and 300 calories/12 oz. It’s one of the craziest beers I’ve ever had the privilege to make. Brewed with Devin Hicks’ Westover Beer Garden crew.
Appearance: Poured a hazy copper color with a lasting medium size white head. Retention was good and left traces of foam lacing on the glass.
Smell: Strong aromas of orange, pine, citrus and caramel. I was expecting to be blown away by the hop aromas. Unfortunately, the hop aroma was not very powerful and did not meet my expectations.
Taste: Strong bitter taste, more piney than citrus. Alcohol was masked well. Where was the mango?
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with very good level of carbonation. The bitterness of this beer is overpowering.
Overall: HopStar turned out to be very disappointing and did not meet my expectations. After reading the description, my hopes were high, but they turned into disappointment after my first few tastes. After making a special trip to Lost Rhino, in order to try this beer, I tried to convince myself that this beer was good. My mind failed to convince my senses.
