I’ve tipped a few of these beers back over the past several years thanks to it being about the only thing on tap at a local eatery I visit regularly. Paired with some flavorful foods like Mediterranean styled pizzas, poached salmon with a fruit demi glace, or a Kung-Pow Asian styled stirfry, the Albino Rhino works rather well. On its own though, it’s a little on the bland side for my palette. But that’s not to say that it’s a bad beer, its still enjoyable, but just a little light.

The Albino Rhino pours an almost pilsner straw yellow color with little head. Lacing on the glass is non-existent. For a mild mannered pale ale, it does have a little bit higher hop factor compared to many Pale Ales, but it’s still quite mild mannered overall.

Aroma and flavors are quite mild, slight hints of caramel, but its well balanced and very even keeled hop and malt blend makes this a very easy to drink beer and is something that new craft beer drinkers will certainly enjoy.

Sold solely on draught for more than ten years, it is now being sold in 12oz bottle sixers and virtually all BC Liquor Stores and at quite a number of the independent beer and wine stores springing up all over the place.

[NOTE: Bear Brewing Co. was bought out by Big Rock of Calgary, Alberta in 2002. For now, Bear will continue to produce its same line of beers using the Bear name]
