Up & Down bar is named for its upstairs bar and downstairs music venue. It is located close to the Montpellier's Corum.
Unfortunately, we visited the bar at a reasonably early hour, so we did not get to see a gig there, but it seemed like an amazing hole-in-the-wall music venue. Upstairs was the bar, serving various European craft beers, while downstairs was this tight cave-like corridor with a slightly elevated stage at the end. My only complaint with the underground area was that it gave off a slightly musty smell that was not conducive to smelling your beer.
The barman that greeted us was very kind and was excited to see a fellow beer geek from another country.
The selection was mostly Belgian beers, but it was a good selection for such a small place, and a lot better than any bar in the Place de la Comédie. There were about five beers on tap with a further fifteen or so in bottles.
I don't think there are many places in the city to get good beer, so this place is a nice one to visit. Unfortunately, I couldn't determine the opening hours - the first time I went there, which was during the day, they were closed. The next day, when we went there at night, they were open.
