500ml bottle served in a tulip glass.

A: Pours a brown-ish opaque color with about three fingers of a golden head with decent retention.

S: Very malty. Roasted malts right upfront, some coffee-like sweetness, brown sugar, woody and caramel.

T: Roasted malts, coffee, caramel, bready, brown sugar, wood. Sweetness upfront with bitter ending.

M: Perfect carbonation for a beer this type. Full-bodied, booze relatively well hidden, and lovely aftertaste.

O: A great beer for colder days. Gotta be careful with brews like this, because the 8% is very discrete, very easy to get drunk. Although I think the upfront taste could be a little less sweet, this is a great beer. Definitely recommended - try it out if you find it.

Winning three consecutive gold medal at the Mondial de la Bière, it already shows that beer is good.

Well balanced, alcohol, full bodied and clear residual malt sweetness.
Aroma: good perception of malted and roasted turfados.
Bitterness: low to medium.
Color: reddish copper.
Final: soft, delicate and very tasty.
great drinkability

Brown amber color, with a nice off-white head with long retention.
Brandy type of aroma, with hints of plums, apricot, caramels and wood.
Taste in general follows the nose, hints of cherry, dry fruits, caramels, sweet toasted and smoked malts (as in a nice scotch you can feel the use of peat – must have been hard to get this in Brazil or to mimic that).
Dry and woody aftertaste, mildly bitter.
Full body without being heavy and with good carbonation. Alcohol is in harmony with the beer flavors.
Well-crafted beer for colder days. Faithful to the style and still with its own personality. Got me curious to see how they ended up getting the peat feel going on or whether they imported the malt.

500 mL bottle, thanks Jon,

A: Pours a medium brown with a frothy off-white head, good lace.

S: Full malt smell, with molasses and a hint of peat and date sugar.

T; Very malty, bready. Fruity as well with dates and plums, dried purple fruit.

M: Almost full-bodied, smooth and creamy. Not cloying at all which was nice to see.

O: While I don't think I was as enamored with this as Jon and Kyle were I enjoyed it quite a bit, arguably the best of the day.

The city of Curitiba is famous for a few things: its botanical garden, its bus system, and its relatively high Polish and Ukrainian populations. Perhaps we need to add one more thing to that list, and it is this relatively new brewery called Bodebrown, which is already making noise in the Brazilian beer scene with its American-influenced beers. One more treat to come by way of srbcurti. This comes in a 500 ml bottle, and it might be among the first breweries to put its Twitter address on the label. On to the beer:

Dark marron in color with spotty lace and more than adequate head retention. In a country where nobody brews a wee heavy, this is a good start. Smelling it makes me very confident in what I'm going to get. It smells just like a Tootsie Roll with a light aspect of smoke. Very appetizing.

Bodebrown Wee Heavy goes heavy with the malt and flavor and doesn't let go. It's a barrage of Tootsie Rolls that is complimented by lighter notes of smoke, tobacco, and esters. The alcohol is disguised extremely well, and the body is so rich and chewy you could make candy out of it.

Wow! Great first impression by Bodebrown, and I'm sure there will be many more great impressions made.
