On tap at a Whole Foods in Washington, DC.

The beer is black as coffee with a thin lacing that is a dark khaki-color. Lacing is sticky and well-distributed around the glass.

The aroma is delightfully similar to a sweet coffee drink. Sweet caramel and coffee hit initially, followed by cream and sugar. The coffee aroma is a deep dark roast.

Everything the nose set me up for continues with the taste. The beer is like sweet, creamy coffee with milk. There's some dark roasted malt and coffee presence, as well as sweeter malt. I get hints of oak and barrel-aging, although I don't believe I had the BA version.

This brew was exceptionally thick and creamy, only slightly boozy, and finishes dry and coffee-and dark chocolate-like.

I'd known nothing about this beer before trying it and was just blown away. It's a real treat to discover a new beer and find that it is awesome.

Had on tap and out of bottle in February.

A- Poured a nice dark black with dark brown head.
S- strong coffee smell, but not harsh.
T- First poured reminded me of a mocha frappochino, smooth not bitter coffee taste. As it warmed the coffee notes started to move back and melt with some chocolate notes.
M- It was a bit grainy but otherwise very smooth.
O- Overall this is by far my favorite coffee stout when fresh from bottle served cold. On tap or with age just didn't do it for me as much.

My friends and I recently opened a bottle one had been saving. Now 3 months of age should not be a big difference but the large coffee notes were already a bit faded making it more chocolate forward with a little bitter coffee bite at the finish. If I had to rate the aged version it'd be around a 4. This is definitely a brew I want fresh and cold. Although not bad by any means.

Black as night and impenetrable to light. A trace of dark brown head is barely present. Sweet aroma of coffee, molasses and roasted barley. Taste is initially bitter with the coffee and roasted barley and then it turns fairly sweet with molasses and fig notes. The fade adds a touch of bitterness presumably from the roasted barley or some bittering hops. The mouth is a bit thick and viscous.

Bottled 2/2014. 750ml bottle served slightly chilled into a goblet.

Sump is nearly black in color. Poured slowly into the glass, very little head forms and it settles quickly.

Aroma is full of fresh roasted coffee and dark malts.

Flavor is rich and balanced with a great imperial stout base beer and a perfectly judged addition of coffee. There is chocolate, toasted nuts, and molasses in there as well.

Mouthfeel is full bodied and well carbonated although a little more so than I prefer for a dark and heavy beer.

Overall a very good coffee stout and, although expensive, worth getting again.
