A wave of tropical fruit and spice brighten this lively, tart wheat ale, taking the German Berliner Weisse tradition on an island run. Hopfentea, steeped on a house-made tea blend of mango, papaya, hibiscus & lemongrass, pairs well with light appetizers, salads and high humidity.

Had this in August 2019 as we were winding down pool season forever. Picked it up for $10 a year back at Ledger's.

Pours what looks like a yellow color that is influenced by some fruit into a more of a light orange subdued color. Made about 3/4" white head. The aroma thankfully was less like tea and put forth more of the usual fruit wild ale lemon sour like notes. Guava, papaya, comes off pretty tropical in the nose.

In the taste, the floral qualities vis a vis hibiscus come out and meet up with that sweet fruit light sour tang medley. At this point, I became content with my $10 spent. Light acidity. Was nice this wasn't a big amped up wild ale in berliner shoes, sure it had all that adjunct stuff, but it wasn't dominating the more beercentric aspects of the drink, in fact, the tea was largely absent for me. For a beer like one I've never had before (berliner + tea + tropical fruit) it wasn't all that bad or just done for the sake of saying "fIrSt". Would I get it again? Prolly not, but was totally worth it once.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy pale golden orange in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate pale golden yellow + bright yellow + bright orange + amber colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense fizzy sudsy foamy light beige head that reduces to a medium sized patch of thin film surrounded by a large patch of very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of tropical/papaya + tropical/mango + tropical/guava along with light aromas of floral/hibiscus. Moderate aromas of slightly soured wheat malts with light to moderate aromas of lactic lemon citrus. Hints of tea aromas and light amount of tartness.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of slightly soured wheat malts with minimal amounts of sweetness and a light to moderate amount of lactic lemon citrus. That is followed by hints of tea. Finally here are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of tropical/papaya + tropical/mango + tropical/guava along with light flavors of floral/hibiscus. Light to moderate amounts of lingering tartness.

M: Slightly heavier than light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly creamy with light amounts of acidic prickliness.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and enough acidity to make this one refreshing. Perfect beer to enjoy on a warm summer evening with really pleasant tropical fruit flavors + aromas. Very interesting with the very light presence of tea.

Hazy tan/orange - not much of a head - what appears, quickly dissipates and it pretty much goes flat. Smells of tart tropical fruit and slight vinegar. Tastes of green apple and pear (on the super green and bitter side). Couldn't make out much tea or herbal notes. Some vinegar. Quite sour for a berliner-weisse - way beyond. Feels pretty thin but close to a medium body. Overall an ok beer. Doesn't hit the marks for a BW or something claiming to have tea in it. Really sour like a belgian blonde sour. Wouldn't buy again (got this on for 70% off).

Appearance: Pours relatively clear and the color of pink lemonade; the head is rather modest, leaving spots of lace

Smell: Hibiscus and guava tones, with a lactic lemon hug

Taste: Lactic lemony sour tones embrace the tropical combination of hibiscus and guava; the tea-like character lingers into the finish, which is also rather dry

Mouthfeel: Light body with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Though this beer would have benefited from more carbonation, the flavors here are unusual and enjoyable

Thanks, Gregwilsonstl, for the opportunity
