Pours black with two fingers of caramel foam. Good retention with this fluffy foam. Aroma is chocolate and mint, which mingle over mild toasty and roasty malts. It's dark, but mint centric, which brings some brightness to the aroma. Light lactose in the middle further brightens things, keeping this beer from oozing heavy stout qualities. Smells a bit like alcoholic chocolate chip mint ice cream. Flavor profile is even more mint forward than the nose. Mint hits hard then fades out in a linear pattern. As the mint pulls away, chocolate becomes more apparent. Roasty and toasty malts give support and structure, but are not the focus. As a whole, it's lightly sweet, but falls short of being a dessert beer. Read that as you will. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a bordering on full, creamy texture. Overall, mint is good, with chocolate being a pleasant complimentary touch. Balanced without being overly sweet.

Update: 2/28/23:
Best By date 3/14/23. Poured at 53°. Absolutely no head, ring, nor lace. Black with ruby edges. Thin Mint cookie nose is present but subtle. Chocolate with only a smidge of mint on the tongue as beer warmed. Silky feel, medium body, light carbonation; a little warmth from 11.5% abv. Overall, I initially wrote in my log book “boring”, but as the beer warmed, notes of mild mint presented and maybe that’s all one can hope for 2 weeks before “best by” date…

Poured at 52°. No canning date. Black with ruby edges; fast fizzy light brown head that vanished immediately leaving a thin ring, no cap retention, and a few spots of lace; thin legs at best on swirl. Nose is cocoa, no mint to speak of. Taste is cocoa and there is some mint, especially as beer warms. Smooth silky thin feel; light body; moderate minus carbonation; some warmth from 11.5% abv; slick tongue coating. Overall the beer is a two trick pony with one horse left behind; mostly boozy chocolate with some subtle mint; thin for abv; not as “decadent” as brewer asserts; can’t imagine aging will add anything…if you have, drink up and move on…

yeesh. was lookin forward to this one after eyeballing it for the last few years on the shelves, finally snagged a can and poured as a nice after dinner treat. deep, dark almost black beer with a nice brown, tightly packed head on top that faded fairly quickly, just leaving a little rim and lace behind. the scent is a promising blend of what i expect from the stouts these guys pump out, with big notes of dark bakers chocolate, roasted coffee and toasty malts, all smoothed out by a nice, almost andes mint smell. not obnoxious in its mintiness, just enough to balance out that powerful stout aroma. going in for a sip i was excited, but was met with a very herbaceous, bitter level of mint that just did not settle with the very solid stout base. honestly reminds me of a straight shot of fernet, especially this lingering aftertaste that's still sitting in my mouth. the mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, doesn't show it's 11.5% at all but again, lingers like no other. maybe it's my mood or something else i ate today that isn't letting this sit right, but i think i'll just buy something else from the perennial folks and let these go to folks that might dig it.

April 10th, 2016 - Minty with spearmint on the nose, this dark little taster offers a fresh puff of herbal freshness, and a soft, foamy and somehow still heavy body. It reminds me of an epically dark stout, but with a minty edge.

The mint flavor is new to me in a beer. It’s nice, adding a certain refreshment to it. Usually, though, when looking for refreshment, I will reach for something other than a stout. I think that still holds true and this beer is a little more of a novelty, a “tried it once” beer. Overall, the chocolate mint flavor seems to push the other beer flavors aside a little too much for me.

Oh man what happened to this beer? I had such high hopes since this brewery is known for its great imperial stouts. This one was so off I have to assume something must have happened to it. 3/10/17 date printed on bottle - maybe it didn’t age well? Pours a thick dark black color with just a little tan head and minimal lingering lacing. Smells good, rich dark coffee, dark chocolate, malt, vanilla, faint mint, some caramel. But the taste was bad. Undrinkable bad. Didn’t remind me of a thin mint, or Andes chocolate mint, or a York, or toothpaste, or anything. Just foul and artificial tasting. There was faint coffee and chocolate in the background but all that was swallowed up by the awful mint concoction. Slightly thin mild mouthfeel, decent carbonation. Just couldn’t get over the taste. Drain pour.

Wow, too much for me, a thin mint doused in gasoline.
