Pour is black with a tight mocha head. Nose is heavy roast with a moderate sugary sweetness and a faint coconut touch. Taste is less roast but far more sweet. The coconut is more present and there is still some roast up front. The sweetness is overpowering and sugary. Full bodied and strong carbonation with an oily slick feel.

This was the 2013 edition
I have been excited about this traded beer for a while
I've noticed a lot of variety in the reviews and think the recent reviews may be effected by the year of bottling since the 2013 edition tastes infected to me.
Appearance is nice carmel brown w/ nice lacing in the glass
Smells like a stout, can't appreciate the coconut, but wouldn't expect to 14 months after bottling.
Taste: Well again expected coconut to diminish, but the bite afterwards was definitely lacto to me.
Mouthfeel: smooth
Overall: Well, I would love to have expected the lacto bite, but didn't know. Otherwise this beer clearly is well past the prime from the 2013 edition.

750 ml bottle, with the label reading bottled 07/2012. I managed to snag one of the last two bottles of this that was lying around at the local beer store. My first beer from Perennial Artisan Ales, and it sounds like a delicious one at that - 'milk stout brewed with coconut'. I'm pretty excited, either way.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a beautiful dark silky black colored body with about two and a half fingers of fluffy bubbly mocha head, with nice staying power even at almost two years old. Some pretty nice spotty lacing clinging to the glass. Looks pretty nice.

S - Smell is comprised of lots of sticky boozy chocolate, fudge, lactose, vanilla beans, almost a bourbon / woodsy / barrel sort of character going on. Underlying notes of dark fruitiness. The coconut is in there, but I wouldn't automatically assume it was brewed with coconut just by the smell.

T - The taste has lots of dark bitter chocolate / coffee bean roast going on. Some mild char. Creamy, sticky, lightly boozy. Silky vanilla, cream, lactose, milk chocolate, cacao. Pretty damn delicious, but I still wouldn't know it was made with coconut without being told. Mild alcohol warmth is noticeable on the finish, but it's not overwhelming.

M - The feel is smooth and creamy, with medium bodied carbonation still strong and present nearly two years after bottling. Mild alcohol heat present, but it's extremely drinkable at 8.80% abv. Bitter and roasty on the finish.

Overall, a fine imperial stout, and a fine introduction for me to this brewery. I would be more than interested to see what the bourbon barrel aged variant tastes like, seeing as how this has held up so well. Highly recommended if you can still get bottles of this.

Found this bottle in the cellar the other day, not sure why I would've bought a milk stout with coconut since I loathe coconut, but this was bottled in 7/2012, so hopefully whatever coconut that was there has faded...take all of this into consideration when reading this review. Enjoyed from a perennial snifter.

a - brew poured pitch black with a generous dark tan head. I waited, let it dissolve some and then filled the remainder of the glass. Head hung out as at least a skin of dark tan bubbles on the surface, slippery lacing.

s - nose is milk stout with chocolate and roast and an ever so slight hint of coconut and cream.

t/m - taste is pretty good. Mbig chocolate with a nice amount of roast and no discernible coconut to speak of...probably more vanilla than coconut. Soft souring dark fruit in the back ground. A bit fizzy but an easy drinker.

o - overall, pleasantly surprised based on the reviews of a newer batch. The 2012 seems to be doing okay right now, though I would say drink them if you got them.
