Thanks for opening this with me, VaTechHopHead!

Black throughout and heavy in body--thick, oily, shiny. Not a lot of visible carbonation, though some. Leaves the glass oily and spotted.

Nice aroma, and probably the most successful part of this beer. Lots of sharp, acidic, roasted coffee notes--reminds me of the Kopi character in Alesmith and Jackie O's Kopi stouts. Some chocolate and whiskey notes as well, but the coffee definitely leads.

The flavor doesn't succeed like the aroma. The coffee is a sharp, overly acidic punch, drowning out the other flavors. This simply tastes like bad, sharp, acidic drip coffee after it's left to cool completely--harsh, bitter, acidic, and overpowering. There's not a lot of barrel here though, regardless. Some whiskey flavors, but not a substantial amount. Some roast and chocolate character as well, but the strong, overly acidic coffee note certainly dominates.

This is where the beer is at its weakest, in my opinion. Very harsh, aggressive, attacking mouthfeel at first. The finish is a little smoother, but the bubbles seem to be too aggressive. I'm not sure if it's actually the body of the beer or simply the acidic coffee overpowering this as well.

I would not seek this one out again, though it does smell nice.

poured at 47 degrees, warmed up a bit. poured into a tulip

pour was thick dark chocolate brown and black. very light cocoa head. the head is why i kept the appearance lower.

a well integrated complex mix of chocolate, coffee, and bourbon. very well rounded and smooth. nothing stands out, just beauty.

very similar to nose, the roasted malt and coffee really compliment each other. the dark bitter chocolate and bright roast coffee just work. what really just throws this out into left field is the barre aging. this is what i call near flawless. not hot, not overpowering, just brilliant. towards the finish the vanilla and spice just slightly nudges out and compliments a perfect sipper.

full body, light chew. sips lighter than it looks. bit of slickness. VERLY slight hint of bourbon burn on the gums.

not much else to say, this is fucking awesome.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Inky black. Small head. Nice mocha collar. Stains a little bit.

Smell - Buckets of coffee. Almost a green raw coffee flavor. Just a bit of whiskey comes through. Smells good.

Taste - Rich chocolate. Very strong coffee flavor, but not as abrasive as the smell implies. More whiskey comes out, but the barrel notes are a little better. Vanilla. Not much oak. Sweet and roasty finish.

Mouthfeel - Apart from the abrasive coffee, smooth drinking. Tasty and warming.

Overall - Got much better as it warmed. Too much coffee but excellent.
