Notes/Commercial Description:
Rye Ale fermented on local blackberries. Another music-inspired beer, Barry Rye is the latest addition to the Perennial playlist. It’s very balanced, with notes of rye spiciness and blackberry juiciness – kind of like some of Barry’s soul hits from the 70s.

Anything by Perennial, I am very willing to try. This would be their first miss, in my book, as far as the few I have tried from them so far.

The mesh of rye and blackberries just doesn't produce anything interesting. It's a jumbled mess really that brings two opposing ends of the spectrum colliding together, but not really meshing. It's not quite odd, but it just doesn't really work. Nice drinker, smooth feel, not the greatest idea.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one at Retsinis' tasting.

Bottled 7/2013.

Pours a murky reddish-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, toast, caramel, and berry aromas. Taste is much the same with rye and slight berry flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a rye presence that is only noticeable in the taste.
