Brewed in honor of the annual BikeMS: City to Shore ride, we look forward to this annual Double IPA almost as much as we look forward to the ride itself. Citra, Amarillo, and Simcoe hops lay the foundation for this citrusy and grapefruit-laden hopfest, and just enough malt character and a well-rounded mouthfeel play supporting roles.

16oz can from Pennsport. Hazy golden pour with a big, airy head . Aroma is fruity, citrusy, sweet. Taste brings a nice hop punch, citrusy, grapefruit and full.

Canned on 06-14-21.

A - Hazy medium gold colored pour.

S - Spicy grapefruit and peppery citrus rind on the nose.

T - Spicy citrus fruit rind, spicy grapefruit, spicy apricot, ends balanced to the sweeter side.

M - Viscous and soft on the palate with a tad bit of coagulation on the palate.

O - Overall very fruity and drinks extremely well. Another beer that I wished I bought more than one can of. This one won't light it up on the D-IPA scale and hang with the heavy hitters but who cares. What we have here is a rock solid beer that's really enjoyable to drink and I'm totally OK with that. Want more and a recommended try.

This was given to be my cousin in a trade recently as he made a run down the shore not too long ago. I haven't had much from Cape May but it's great to see the can design that they're using now as the liquid on the inside was just as lovely. It's been a while since an Imperial IPA took my by surprise but that was certainly the case with this one!

This had a good pour to this as the hazy, peach hue was quite pleasing and let a good amount of light in. A nice head topped it off as it quickly settled while the lacing left behind as only on deep ring remained near the top of my pint glass. Orange, grapefruit, wheat, pine, and soap in the muted nose as they were more pronounced and bold in the taste. Lovely, balanced mouthfeel with just enough carbonation to keep this lighthearted while the beer never let up during my session. The light dankness from the Simcoe balanced out the other two hops as this was equally slick, earthy, and potent without being offensive in any sense of the word. Some outdoors-feeling heft lingered on my breath when this was done, which wasn't very long after I cracked it open.

Canned on 7/30, this didn't have any sediment as it tasted as fresh as could be and held up well over the last 2 1/2 months. The sharpness from the grapefruit, tangerine, and pine was perfect to counter the basic bread in the malt as the booze could have been just a tad weaker. Regardless, this was wonderful and made me happy to see a brewery here in Jersey up their ante and get closer to what other states are producing. Worth seeking out for IPA lovers!

A pint can poured into a clear pint glass brings forth a cloudy dirty blonde brew with a little head and a little more glass lacing. The smell of piney hops up the expectations. AND... expectations met, thank you. There's a powerful malt backbone and with the hint of alcohol, makes a wonderfully sweet introduction. Then the hops become the stars of the show. They're piney, resinous and complex. City to Shore provides an enjoyable run of flavors, yet never falls out of a reasonable balance. At worst - Outstanding.

Pours a hazy, opaque light golden orange color. A one finger head quickly faded to a white skim on top.

Very welcoming aroma of citrus and hops.

Nice mixture of citrus, malts and hops. Finishes with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Nice mouthfeel with a decent amount of carbonation.

Overall, a nice DIPA. Not fantastic but overall a good DIPA that I would purchase again. Cheers!

The next leap of the TARDIS on New Back to the Beer Future Sunday, Part 4, Mission IV, (Week 762) takes us to Cape May, NJ as a part of The CANQuest (tm) and back to Week 751.

From the CAN: ; "Marked By Passion"; "Sexy Hops Bring a Wave of Citrus, Grapefruit, and Other Exotic Fruit Notes"; "New Jersey Proud"; "Serve In [a bulbous English pint]"; "Best Paired With [sunshine, chicken legs and/or fishing (fly rod?) ]"; "Care for the Cape"; "Profile: From the boil to the dry hop, the hops blend in City to Shore hits all the right notes and tickles your taste buds. The sexy hops in this Double IPA bring a wave of citrus, grapefruit, and other exotic fruits to your face. Not as dry as your usual hop-bombs, we leave a touch more of the body behind to bring out the juicier hop profile."; "Crafted on the Cape"; "Grounded in Camaraderie".

Aw, this CAN's label makes me nostalgic. My late-Pops used to ride from LNC, PA to Cape May, NJ; hop a ferry back to PA & ride home. All over the course of an annual weekend with the LNC Bicycle Club! Great stories.

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug since that is what Pops would have wanted. Actually, I have no idea what he would have wanted since he was not really a drinker, nor was Mom-Za. She is still more into cocktails, but I rarely saw him imbibe. It foamed up beautifully to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with great retention, eventually falling away, leaving great lacing in its wake. Color was Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity for the first time today, prompting a much-CANticipated visit from The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus. Nose had an odd dryness, like old newspapers stored in the attic & forgotten. I generally get this with Belgians & their oddball yeast strains. It was unusual in this style, but not warranting dunning just yet. Mouthfeel was medium, but on the light side for this style. I wanted to let it roll around in my mouth & on my tongue to get a better sense of it before moving on & I did so. The taste made me really think that it was a Belgian IPA! Pops & his ilk would love this, since the Tour de France routinely ventures into Belgium. Why did I think this? Its dusty, musky, papery flavor, underlain by the grapefruit citrusiness & the sweet tropical fruitiness. Is this what the brewery intended? Dunno, but when thinking of it as a Belgian IPA, it excels! Mmm. Pass the frites & let me get back astride mon velo!

Once upon a time, I was a reluctant student of French at the school which I attended for 11 years. I wanted to learn Spanish, but it required special permission from one's 'rents, which they would not give. Four years of French seemed useless to me, even in my first overseas liberty port of Barcelona, Spain. 8=( It was only upon being a plankowner (commissioning crew) aboard the USS Normandy (CG-60) that it really came in handy. On our first visit in June 1991 to open the new D-Day Museum, I was passable. On our next visit, I was good. By December & Marseille, I was fluent to the point that I was pulled to be part of the ship's liaison, normally a billet for officers! You CAN imagine the havoc that I caused, speaking street/gutter French to dignitaries! 8=) Our US Chargé (ambassador, of sorts) was utterly fascinated by me & on our last night in port, bade me bring her to the Seaman's Club! 8=O This was such a site of debauchery that none other than senior enlisteds dared step foot inside! Natch, I was one & I figured that I could keep an eye on her. She was a slim & trim American with flowing jet-black hair, so what could possibly go wrong? Upon entering, I was taken aside by Josette-Louise, my (ahem!) CANpanion & braced to find out why I had brought such a one to this place. Before I could answer, Chargé had already begun to engage with several fellows (!) & there was no turning back! As the evening ended & my shipmates beCAN to filter out into waiting taxis, CANic set in. How could I leave her there? How could I show up at the brow & quarterdeck solo & have her come up missing?!? 8=( She solved it by being her usual elegant self & riding back to the ship with me long enough to see me aboard before heading home. Surprisingly, rumors never beCAN. It may have been that had the affair gotten out, we might have all been court-martialed!

Back to the Bière. This was very good, causing me to rub my tummy after each sip. Mmm. Yummy! Belgian yeast meets citrus & Southern Hemisphere hops - object: matrimony. Want ads are a thing of the past, but it was if this beer had answered one. AUS or NZ hops seeks BEL yeast strain. Ménage a Trois with PACNW hops a distinct possibility. Meet in Cape May, NJ & await deets. POB 6969, serious inquiries only.

Mon Dieu! This was a bière worthy of mon pere. It was so Belgian that I think that they have missed the mark in its CANrent identification! I was absolutely transported back to France & Belgium while drinking this one. YMMV.
