Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Oakenator on 07-13-2013

When most folks thing of Cape May they imagine Victorian Inns and parasols. Forget all that. Devil's Reach is a narrow passageway in Cape May Harbor and is a fitting name for this beer. Why you ask? The Devil's Reach is smooth and complex. It glides like a shark through the water and will swallow you whole. At 8.4% ABV, this Belgian is a beast.

a: Clear, sort of coppery golden; pours with a medium sized fizzy head.

s: Sugary for sure, some yeasty fruit and a touch of pepper. Very well disguised abv.

t: Pretty sweet up front, in a sugary way. Some fruity phenols and clove before a sugary finish.

m: Kinda thin for the abv.

o: A bit sweet but not bad overall. Reasonably priced I believe

- On tap. shaker pint.

A: Golden orange coloring, thin covering, no carbonation with a quickly retreating head.

T: Tropical fruitiness on the nose, fresh pineapple, candy sugar, and a bit of orange-apple.

T: Flavor was fruity, tropical, pineapple-orange, sweet malt based. Yeasty applesauce, sweet candi sugar and spicy belgian hops.

M: Softly carbonated, good body per style.

O: Overall good drinkability, sweet and fruity. A beast that drinks like a lamb, sharp clarity of flavor and very smooth.

A: Pours a pale unflitered yellow color with minimal head. Head retention is minimal and there is minimal lacing.

S: Citrus and spicy aroma.

T: Grapefruit and orange up front with farm spices on the back. Tastes like a strong Saison - really good.

M: Somewhat lacking carbonation but still good.

O: Great brew - and a good balance for flavor on a hot day.

Bottle from MrBarleywine
Pours a slightly hazy deep straw color with a decent sized quickly depleting bubbly white head. Aromas of lemon a sweet bread with a bit of yeasty funk. The flavor follows the aroma, sweet bready malt a bit of lemon and apple with a touch of alcohol and yeasty funk. Medium body light to moderate carbonation. Feels like a bit wit with maybe a bit of extra sweetness. I could drink this but nothing about it really wows me.
