Bottle shared by Barry last night.
Pours a murky dark-ish amber, with no head or lacing.
This smells quite strongly tequila-forward, with a little bit of pepper, some caramel, and toast.
This does not shy away from it's tequila characteristics at all- but it luckily takes some good tequila flavor, but doesn't have the boozy bitterness I often associate with tequila. The pepper flavor seems to have dissipated with the aging. There's cassava root in here, too, but I can't really pick that out, because I don't know what that's supposed to taste like. There's some brown sugar and caramel as well. This doesn't feel like an amber ale, more like a barleywine or a strong ale, but I guess that doesn't really matter.
This is fairly thick bodied, and a bit syrupy, mouthfeel-wise. It has a lower level of carbonation.
Certainly one of the more unique beers I've ever had. Thanks for letting me try some, Barry!
