Thin-looking black with a brown edge and very tiny ring of khaki-colored haze. Nose like a bad Barrel-aged homebrew, weak coffee, chocolate, dark malt, and Bourbon. Taste is similarly weak, more chocolate, coffee, and a completely amateur take on barrel-aging. It's a shame a perfectly good Makers Mark barrel was wasted on this sub-par beer. Thin, weak, and just not great. Mouthfeel is thin as well, watery even, with low to non-existant carbonation. I understand that this was their first bottled beer attempt, but they've got a looong way to go before this is even remotely drinkable.

Big thanks goes out to my boy beeruser for sharing this one during our Labor Day tasting! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured pitch black with a one finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, coffee, hazelnut, and sweet alcohol. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, coffee, nutty, caramel, wood, and sweet alcohol. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. When beeruser brought this bottle out I had not idea that it ever existed. Based on the number of reviews it doesn't appear that many people do. However, what I found was quite nice and well balanced for the style. The flavors and aromas weren't overly intense like you would expect from the style, but they all worked really nicely together and helped to compliment one another throughout each sip. I would definitely love to try the other barrel treatment version as the Maker's Mark was very intriguing. Definitely worth trying.

Hardly any foam, pitch black color and a smell of dark, sweet bourbon, some dark chocolate. Fairly heavy (but not over powering) taste of bourbon. Also has notes of vanilla, coffee. Fairly light bodied as far as RIS's go. Excellent rich dark chocolate taste. A pretty smooth beer, while still having the rich/roasted character of an Imperial Stout.

Secret spot is a Russian imperial stout aged in Maker's Mark barrels with cocoa nibs. This is the one year anniversary beer for Green Room and the first beer they have bottled. Only 900 bottles are available. Congrats to Eric on what he has accomplished in this short time.

A: 1.5 finger milk chocolate head on a jet black body with excellent lacing.

S: Roasted malts, earthy hops, bourbon and dark chocolate. Interestingly the dark chocolate is weaker in this version than the palm ridge whiskey barrel version.

T: coffee, roasted malts, cocoa. The chocolate is perfectly represented. The booze are very well hidden. This is a tough genre to stand out in and this one certainly has some memorable qualities.

M: thin body for the style and moderate to high carbonation. Dry finish from the coffee.

Overall: very nice cocoa notes from the nibs coming through. Not quite the body fullness I like but the usual flavors are all there and well represented. Very drinkable for what it is.
