A very impressive 4.8 abv beer. Rich and tasty, I could drink several of these. Pours a cloudy honey gold color into a Stone tulip. Big white head..delicate bubbles but the end result is a big, healthy frothy head. head retention is very good and there is some spotty patches of filmy lacing. If the tulip, this beer looks like a print beer ad.

Aroma is prominent as well. Belgian yeast, cloves, lemon and malt. Very inviting.

Taste is very good as well. The ingredients from the aroma are nicely blended and strong. A light, flavorful, yeasty Belgian beer.

Mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Would expect this beer had a much higher abv. There is still a lightness about it and a little astringency, Very nice.

Overall, an excellent summer brew, very enjoyable.

Light gold in color with a very hazy complexity due to being unfiltered. A fingernail thin eggshell white head is present. Brussels lacing. Aroma of bready malts with a saltine cracker to a gentle sourdough note. The sourdough note is more forward than the saltine cracker note in the taste. This a pale malt forward beer. The mouth is crisp and moderately carbonated. A summer quencher with plenty of flavor.

On tap at Specialty Beer Cellar. Served in a goblet.

Appearance - Broght orange. Hazy. Huge white head. Lasts a long Tim.

Smell - Light citrus. Belgian yeast. Lightly phenolic. Grainy cracker malt aroma.

Taste - Very grainy. Yeasty flavors are strong. Flavorful for being so light. Phenolic. Bright herbal hop flavor lingers.

Mouthfeel - Medium light. Well carbonated.

Overall - I rather enjoyed this. I could drink a few of these without getting bored.

Batch A 16 04 16, poured into a chalice

A- pours a slightly hazy pale yellow color with a bubbly two-finger hear that retains nicely, eventually reducing to a cap, leaving a bit of lace behind

S- banana yeasty aromas pop out up front with some candied sugar notes, clean earthy dried hay mixes with some musty damp aromas, lemongrass with some floral and phenolic notes close it out with some crackery toasted malt

T- Belgian yeast flavors take over up front with notes of banana & candied sugar, lemon grass flavors add a slight tartness, floral hops, finishing dry with some must and earthiness

M- light-medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a crisp and dry finish

O- pretty impressive that this beer falls under the category of session beer, yet is packed with classic Belgian pale flavor, another solid addition to the Bernardus family

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

A classic looking Belgian pale. Big dolloped whip white head on top. Supper creamy like icing and bright white with sheets of lacing down the sides. Body color is a classic opaque lemon yellow to darker brown, with good pin head white lines of rising carbonation all along the sides of the glass. A little dull, but still a good looking brew.

Big clove like notes on this, and phenols. Spicy brown and dry, with a bit of crisp malt to it as well. Some light sucrose but not much, pretty straightforward.

That sharp stinging phenol and spice really hits the palate. Hop spiced herbal finish and lots of warmth, making it seem larger than 4.8% abv. Crisp bodied and light, hints of floral sweetness and a real subtle complex quality. Chewy sweet breads, mild honey and vanilla, hop stinging bitterness, and soda quinine flavor and dryness.

What a real nice pale addition to the family to be having on the other side of the pond. Delicious.

Pours a light gold with some haze and a nice, fluffy layer of foam on the surface. Aromas of soft fruity yeast, lemon, mild clove, and a pleasant doughy pale maltiness. Taste certainly has that St. Bernardus character...delicate fruity yeast esters like pear and banana, a bit more clove than the smell, cracked pepper, and light grass. Less malt than the aroma, which is only slightly disappointing as this is still very enjoyable. Medium-light, lush mouthfeel, finishing crisp. I imagine I would session the shit out of this if it wasn't so expensive.

Very light and easy drinking. Well done. Not as hoppy as other BPAs, which I like. Very good beer.

Extra 4 is definitely in my top 2 favorite Belgian pale ales. It is very tasty and definitely a session beer. Good to see a lower ABV selection from this brewer.
