A beautiful beer on my Belgium "to do" list, purchased from grassroots market in Jacksonville.
A: Pours a nice deep nutty brown shade in the glass. Good bready head on first pour with just a shade of off-white. Clingy sattelite lacing with a great halo of retention.
S: Smells of dark burnt caramel and sweet hay.
T: The cocoa flavors were first on my pallete, finished by a buttery sweetness of dried fruits. Mango, dried pineapple on the exhale. Sweet flavored with a medium-bold punch from the hops in the middle. Alcohol level is well masked. A good foray into Big Belgians for people that love stouts.
M: Smooth and creamy. Full bodied beer with a decent dry finish.
D: Sipper, not a chugger, simply from the alcohol. Oh yes, you'll want to chug... be warned. Very warming on a cool night. Would pair nicely with pumpernickel bread, hearty butter and a good cheese like stilton or roquefort.
