Bottle poured into a chalice.
A- DARK. Normal quad coloring. This beer is not normal though.
S-Malts, fruit, banana, toast.
T- too many people think of rochefort (sp?) 10. As the "perfect" quad. Wrong. Abt 12 has a universal taste profile mimicking perfection. It's warming as it goes down, and gets sweet and toasty towards the end. Low hop presence, smokey roasted malt content evident.
F- bigger, but not huge. Enough to notice, but nothing crazy. Medium feel, but in no way a session beer.
Overall- one of the best as far as the style goes. Not if, but when you try it, thank yourself for indulging a monks philosophy of making beer. Less words about this beer, and more tasting will make it worth your while.

A: Clear tree bark brown, soapy head (this bottle is literally overflowing just upon its opening). Some large debris is visible. Bonus points for the ridiculous head (it won't stop!), but I am a little worried about what happened to cause that/how long it's been on the shelf.
S: Pungent, several inches above my glass I'm still getting strong aromas of plum, mild malt, a touch of sweetness. Very clean.
T: Same as above, hints of caramel in addition. Initial taste is dry, mild sweetness on the finish. No alcohol trace, impressive.
M: Silky, soft, padded, but nowhere near flat. Somewhat astringent. Honestly one of the most impressive mouthfeels I've ever tasted.
O: A classic example of a quad. Not overly complex, but with plenty of depth. Standard-setting.
