Spent the holiday weekend down in Greenville, SC with some friends and had to go the Trappe Door for my Belgian fix. I really wanted a Quad, but alas, there were none on draft. This is one I've wanted to try for quite some time, but keep passing up. Not this time. This was the small 11.2oz bottle, poured into a St. Bernardus chalice.
Pours a dark ruby-mahogany garnet with a small sheet of lace on top. Rich aroma of plum, grape, stawberry, alcohol, all washed in a pleasant floral scent. Carbonated well. Good heft to this makes this a great sipper. Holds up the richness of this beer quite well.
The flavors mirror the aroma making this one a nice decadent treat. Fig, raisin, plum, molasses, syrup, and just a touch of booze on the finish. There's a lot going on here, and I'm not sure this bottle was big enough for me to capture all of the nuances. I guess that's what the 750s are for. This was a treat, and one I would gladly have again.

Cork poured into my Schneider Weisse weizen glass.
A: HUGE head, dark brown opaque caramel color, medium carbonation slanted towards the bottom, THICK lacing throughout.
S: Dominant scent is salty pretzels, malty and bready with some spice.
T: Bready, biscuity, malty with spice, caramel at times.
M: Medium-full body, very creamy, high carbonation, alcohol is very well hidden.
O: Great mouthfeel with bready taste. Reminds me of Sam Adams Double Bock, but slightly less desirable taste and less visible carbonation.
