0.33L bottle dated best *before* (!?) 08 09 16. Served in Chimay chalice, cold but allowed to warm. Beer is unfortunately sedimented and flocculated. Beer pours deep brown in color, transmitting basically no light, with a thick and inviting paler brown head. Aroma is deep, malty, and fruity (raisins, prunes).
Flavor is pure enjoyment for any lover of strong beer. Big complex malt backbone, dark fruit, belgian yeast, and perfect balance. I get molasses from the flavor but sweeter treacle in the nose. Moderate carbonation. All together these things add up to a beer which is clearly for slow sipping, but the beer is so damn good that you just can't help but go back for more. So it's kind of a "fast sipping" beer although that might change after the first one. As the beer comes to temperature the carbonation becomes creamier and the alcohol emerges a bit headier.
This quad is a fantastic execution and has defined the style. This is the beer American brewery's Belgian-style quads or high gravity dubbels aim for.
