Pours a somewhat murky brown, with reddish highlights when held to the light. Large, frothy head displays large bubbles and falls rather quickly to a thin layer of foam.
The nose displays an earthy character with some dark fruit, carmel, and esters. Flavor continues may of these, with carmel sweetness and some light fruit flavors (dark cherry and raisins). High effervescence creates an explosion of carbonation as it hits the tongue. I find this detracts a bit from flavor complexity. There is also a touch of alcohol in the finish.
Overall, a nice strong-dubbel Belgian ale. Tasty and enjoyable, though I did not enjoy it as much as I expected I might with the very high ranking this beer enjoys on BA. I do think there are many better Belgians out there.
